Dortmund is the largest city in the German state of Westphalia. It’s the epicenter of the German coal and steel industries and also has a long history of brewing classic German beer. Like many cities in the country, Dortmund has a plethora of wide-open spaces and gorgeous public parks, making it a lovely city to take a stroll and enjoy the outdoors.
Aside from steel, coal, and beer, Dortmund is also known for its successful football (soccer, if you’re American) team, Borussia Dortmund. The team was founded way back in 1909 and is one of the most formidable teams in all of Europe with the continent’s biggest stadium, Signal Iduna Park (also known as Westfalenstadion). So, catching a game is a must, even if you’re not necessarily a sports fan.
The city also has countless museums exploring the area’s interesting past, present, and future. With museums on football, gaming, modern workplaces, breweries, and, of course, modern art, Dortmund won’t leave you wanting more.
If you’re in Dortmund over the December holidays, be sure to check out their gorgeous Christmas Markets, a tradition that’s strong all across Europe. But, even if you miss the festive season, Alter Markt is a nice alternative.
Eat, drink, and shop in Dortmund or you might spend some time at the Dortmund Zoo, especially if you’ve got kids in tow. So, grab some German beer and start exploring!

Convenient to the Met, which does not allow luggage at coat check. Very easy check in and check out process, with lovely people at the front!

This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
