Store Your Luggage Around Eilat With Bounce
Eilat is a large city in southern Israel known for its warm climate and sunny days. In fact, they average 360 sunny days out of 365 days a year. On the northern end of the Red Sea, which the locals refer to as the Gulf of Aqaba, you can find this quaint town in the Negev Desert close to Taba, the Egyptian Village. With broad valleys, limestone mountains, and sparkling seashores on the Gulf of Aqaba, the town is the perfect place for travelers to enjoy the outdoors.
The City of Eilat is an ancient place where they have found prehistoric tombs from the 7th millennium BC. Mining and trading records date back to the fourth dynasty in Egypt, crossing the Red Sea to do business. The name Eilat is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible from the crossing of the Red Sea to King David conquering Edom.
Today, Eilat is modern and has a booming tourism business with thousands of visitors every year seeking all sorts of outdoor activities like parachuting, hiking, boating, and even camel tours. One of the most popular sports is diving along the Gulf of Aqaba, where they have logged about 250,000 dives each year. Others come to the city to learn more about the culture, dine at some local eateries, and shop at some of the best shopping malls.

Museums
There are more than a dozen museums and memorials in Eilat for you to explore and enjoy. For those who are into archaeology, the city has several great archaeological museums. If you want to learn more about the background of Eilat and Israel, visit one of the more traditional museums.
- Eilat City Museum: In Gan Binyamin Central Park on Derech Yotam Street, the Eilat City Museum is easy to find behind the colorful fish sculptures. Although it is a small place, it has a big collection of artifacts and documents about the past residents as well as the Red Sea and flora and fauna in the area. Learn all about the pioneers and the “Ink Flag.” Stop in at the gift shop for some souvenirs you won’t find anywhere else.
- Eilat Ornithological Park: Just off of 109, this sanctuary is a fantastic way to learn more about the wildlife of the area. The park is a main stop for migrating birds and is the only overland bridge between Africa, Asia, and Europe. Millions of feathered flocks fly through the park every year and stop in at the salt marsh for a drink before moving on. Be sure to grab your camera out of your bag before leaving them with one of our Bounce partners.
- Aqaba Heritage Museum: Aqaba is a city with many ruins to explore. Holding well-preserved history, you can explore the ancient town and visit the Mada Mud House. Get some selfies with the treasures on the inside. View the house lantern, an old radio, and weapons on the wall. The bedroom has a bed with a mosquito net, bride’s chest for clothing, and a baby coat made out of pine fronds. Don’t miss the Aqaba Castle, which was a fortress built in 1187.
Shopping
With malls in all shapes and sizes, as well as tiny shops and big boutiques, you can find your niche in Eilat. They even have open-air bazaars and markets where you can get local wares and fresh food. Check out some of our faves.
- Mall Hayam: Also known as Canyon by The Sea, Mall Hayam is the largest mall in the city. It is perched on the Red Sea, so you have beautiful views while you shop. From Aphrodite to Zip Fashion, this mall has over 50 stores to keep you busy shopping all day. And, it is tax-free too! You can also stay for lunch or dinner since they have over a dozen eateries.
- Ice Mall: This place may not be the biggest, but it is the busiest. Where else can you go shopping, get a tan, see a movie, play games, and relax in an aqua spa? You can try the zip coaster, play laser tag, or go ice skating too. Found on Kampen Street, the shops they have will remind you of home with Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and Adidas. But they also have unique shops, perfect for browsing.
- Markets: Eilat’s Promenade is a fun and exciting bazaar that reaches from the promenade bridge to the Eilat Mall. From handmade jewelry to artisan-designed clothing, you will find some unique souvenirs here. Mashav Market Eilat is a co-op on Hativat Golani that sells gifts as well as food and wine. On Hatoren Street, you can find Eilat’s Bazaar with some of the most eclectic (and sometimes strange) items for sale. Handmade or crafted, each piece is a one-of-a-kind souvenir or treasure to be proud of.
Dining
Some of the reasons many people travel to Eilat is the food. The Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine in the city is well-known and popular. They boast fresh hummus with warm bread, falafel with all the trimmings, and shawarma, which is a popular street food made like a kebab with thin slices of meat. Try some of these hot spots:
Local Food: Try a schnitzel or kufta at Omers on Shderot ha-Tmarim. The kebabs and ribeye burgers are also fantastic at this cozy restaurant. Try some of their crispy goose and fried egg for a different kind of breakfast or brunch. Halev Harachav Steak House on Keil Ha Handasa is the perfect place for falafel or a prime rib shawarma. And Achla on Kamen Street is the best place to get meat lovers’ salads at no charge while you wait for your meal.
Fast Food: For good food on the go, stop in for a bite at Al Dayaa Shawarma on Al Saada Street. Pitagoras on Shderot ha-Tmarim gets rave reviews for their food as well as their ambiance. The fish falafel and hummus are great, and the super-duper pita bread filled with warm beef is amazing. For a hot dog or sausage in a hurry, Piccolo on Ha-Baz is the best.
Dessert Spots: With a name like Yummy Yummy, you know it has to be good. This delightfully decorated shop on Ha-Baz serves up dessert in fashion. Try some warm waffles with cream, frosting, and fruit on the sides drizzled with syrup. And their ice cream is touted as the best in the city. Deli Cream on Derekh Yotam has some of the most unique flavors of ice cream in Eilat. For a healthier treat, head over to the Yogurt Bar on the Queen of Sheba Promenade.
