Entebbe is a small and quiet town in central Uganda on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Victoria. You will love your stay whether you are here to hang out at one of the lovely beaches, take a safari to see some African animals in their own habitat, or enjoy drinking and dining at the local eateries or bars. Uganda and Entebbe have a lot of culture to explore, and you can learn a lot at their museums, historical sites, and memorials. Uganda Wildlife Education Center: Also known as the Entebbe Zoo, this fantastic living museum on Lugard Avenue has over 250 animals they care for at any given time. Not only are they a great place to see wild animals, they also work as an emergency rescue for endangered and injured animals in the area. UWEC also has outreach programs, research facilities, and a number of interactive exhibits.
Entebbe Botanical Garden: After learning about the fauna, head to Kampala Expressway to learn about the flora at the Entebbe Botanical Garden. This lush garden has been in Entebbe since 1898 and has over 300 species of plants, flowers, and trees. You are also likely to see some colobus monkeys, parrots, vultures, and hawks hanging around. You can take a guided tour or just walk around and explore on your own.
Ugandan Museum: Founded in 1908, the Ugandan Museum on Kira Road has it all from archaeology to science as well as ethnology and music. The most popular exhibit at this museum is the cultural village with different huts to depict the various lifestyles of Ugandan families. There are 16 types of huts, including the Acholie Old Man House, Bamba House, and the Kigezi House, to name a few.
Shop 'til you drop at some of the interesting and unique places in Entebbe. Some of the small street shops look like empty shacks while others are big and luxurious. However, you will not see anything like these shopping options in the United States, so make sure to take advantage while you are in town.
Mall Shopping: There are several malls and shopping centers in Entebbe to choose from. The Victoria Mall on Berkeley Road is the largest with over a dozen retail stores, several eateries including KFC and Café Javas, and a cinema. Kampala Fair on Portal Road has a large selection of clothing, accessories, and food. Abujjah Shopping Center on Entebbe Road boasts several unique shops like Sadolin, Beauty Center, and a small supermarket.
Souvenir Shopping: Whether you want to haggle with the street market vendors or negotiate a fair price with one of the artisans, souvenir shops and vendors are everywhere. Entebbe Crafts Village on Portal Road has a large variety of stalls and kiosks selling everything you can think of. The Souvenir Shop on Kitoro Road by the Upland Supermarket is popular as well.
Boutiques: Head over to Signature Jewelry on Universal House Road for some fancy bling or Gallery Antique on Gayaza Road for something old and unique. Brenda’s Boutique on Kampala and Mama’s Shop across the street both have a variety of items to peruse. Nagawa’s Boutique on Kitubulu Road has some fantastic clothing and accessories for women.
Try the local eats in Entebbe while you are in town at least once. Most of the local food is Ethiopian and African style with seafood, beef tibs, and kitfo as some of the local favorites. They also have burgers, pizza, and much more to choose from.
Local Cuisine: Maanzo Aperitif Bar & Restaurant on Mugula Road is an amazing experience for the food and the ambiance. The owner likes to become friendly with the guests, and they even have a 55-inch television and music. The jerk chicken is highly recommended. Enjoy some kitfo, tibs, or shiro at the Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar on Airport Road. It's authentic local food with a casual and friendly setting.
Fine Dining: Faze 3 on Circular Road is a fantastic spot to get Indian food and a beautiful view. The outdoor seating is right over Victoria Lake. Goretti’s Beachside Pizzeria and Grill on Nambi Road has delicious pizza as well as seafood and pasta. They even have live music and dancing. Another amazing spot on the beach, 2 Friends Beach Restaurant on Nambi Road, is right by the pizzeria and has awesome food and service.
American Food: Are you looking for a burger? Café Javas on Berkeley Road in Victoria Mall has burgers, fish, pasta, and much more in a casual but nicely furnished restaurant. At Riders Lounge on Lugard Avenue in Imperial Mall, you can find pizza, pasta, and seafood as well as beer and other adult drinks. And Anna’s Corner on Queens Road has Bali burgers, Thai beef salad, and entertainment.
