Galle Lighthouse: Also known as the Pointe De Galle Light, this structure was built in 1848 and is the oldest lighthouse in Sri Lanka. The original building was extensively damaged in a fire. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1939 and stands 86 feet tall. Stroll along the base and look out over the sea. Then sign up for a tour of the inside of the lighthouse.
National Maritime Archaeology Museum: Located inside a Dutch warehouse at the Galle Fort, this museum opened in 1992, but the artifacts were destroyed in the 2004 tsunami that hit the city of Galle. The building survived the tsunami, and the Sri Lanka-Netherlands Cultural Co-Op Program, along with the Royal Government of Netherlands aided in the reconstruction of the National Maritime Archaeology Museum. Today, it is home to hundreds of exhibits, including some interactive and hands-on exhibits.
