Galle Dutch Fort: Located in the Bay of Galle, the Galle Dutch Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1588. The Dutch then took it over and began adding extensive fortifications in 1649. Galle Lighthouse: Also known as the Pointe De Galle Light, this structure was built in 1848 and is the oldest lighthouse in Sri Lanka. The original building was extensively damaged in a fire. National Maritime Archaeology Museum: Located inside a Dutch warehouse at the Galle Fort, this museum opened in 1992, but the artifacts were destroyed in the 2004 tsunami that hit the city of Galle.
