About Tottenham Court Road

The area known as Tottenham Court is based around the road of the same name in London’s West End. Running between St Giles Circus to Euston Road, Tottenham Court Road is centrally located near the University of London, The British Museum, and the cultural hub of Soho. With plenty of hotels and nightlife offerings, Tottenham Court is a common option for international travelers looking for a more local experience when staying in London.

While it originally came into prominence for its many appliance and electronics stores, Tottenham Court Road has become one of the most cosmopolitan parts of London, with plenty of banking and modern industries setting up offices here. While it’s commuter-oriented, that does mean there are plenty of restaurants and nightlife options nearby. It also makes Tottenham Court Road highly accessible via public transportation. The London Underground’s Central Line runs through Tottenham Court Road Station, directly connecting it with the city’s top attractions and tourist destinations.

Are there storage lockers at Tottenham Stadium?

It’s important to note that Tottenham Stadium isn’t actually situated near Tottenham Court Road. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is located about seven miles north of central London and can be reached from central London in about 45 minutes via the Victoria Underground Line. There is a very strict bag policy in place at Tottenham Stadium prohibiting almost all personal items larger than a small handbag, which makes storing luggage a must before heading to a game. There are no storage lockers or a left luggage service offered at the stadium, so you'll want to look into a luggage storage service like Bounce instead.

Where can I store luggage for a day in London?

Certain transportation facilities, museums, and shopping centers will offer baggage lockers for a small fee, but the best way to store your belongings for a day of sightseeing would be luggage storage services. These independent companies tend to operate multiple facilities around a city like London, and the network of locations can be accessed via mobile app.

Which London train stations have left luggage lockers?

It really depends on the train station. There’s a huge difference between a facility like King’s Cross Station and a smaller Tube stop on the outskirts of the city. Larger transportation hubs like Piccadilly Circus or Victoria Coach Station will have limited lockers, but Tottenham Court Road Station will not. That’s why it's so useful to find a luggage storage location through a service. If you’re looking to store your bags at the train station, you should research ahead of time.

Which service has the best luggage storage facilities?

Of all the luggage storage options serving London, Bounce has to be the best option. With several luggage storage locations in essentially every London neighborhood, Bounce provides the most options of any service. Even better, it’s easy to find the nearest luggage storage facility with the Bounce mobile app, and you can book online. Bounce partners with local businesses and vets them to ensure security and quality. We also offer $10,000 BounceShield Protection which provides ample comfort for travelers.

How to get to Tottenham Court Road from the Airport

Tube

Tottenham Court Road Station is situated on the Central Line, the Elizabeth Line, and the Charing Cross branch of the Northern Line. This makes the area highly accessible from most places in central London. If you’re sightseeing, this is as useful as it gets, with hotspots like Oxford Circus and attractions like the British Museum being only a stop or two away.

Bus

The #10, #14, #24, #29, and #73 buses all run through the area around Tottenham Court Road. These are definitely useful if you’re staying on the specific route, but the Tube will often be much quicker. Still, you can reach Piccadilly Circus and Chelsea  (#14), King's Cross (#10), and Trafalgar Square (#24) within 15-20 minutes via the bus. A single bus ride only costs about $2.50, making this the most affordable option.

Taxi and rideshare

This is one of the easier ways to get around the city, with the iconic London cabs being exceedingly easy to hail. This is, however, the most expensive option, with the average price of a ride being $25 to $40 to get around the city. It’s also not the best way to get to Tottenham Court Road from the airport, and you won’t save that much time and the price will be close to $60.

Walking

If you’re trying to get some steps in, Tottenham Court is pretty walkable from other travel destinations in London, just not from the London airports. For example, it’s only a 20-minute walk from Trafalgar Square, which is at the epicenter of London’s tourist hotspots. From Picadilly Circus, it’s about a 22-minute walk through some of London’s most vibrant and scenic areas.

Cycling

London is a fairly bikeable city, with dedicated bike lanes, ample racks for locking your bike, and an almost entirely flat topography. There are plenty of bike rental companies operating throughout the city. The most common way to cycle around London would be Santander Bikes, which has over 800 docking stations for quickly renting a bike and docking it within a short period of time. It’s great for one-way trips and the bikes are comfortable.

How to get to Tottenham Court from the London Heathrow Airport

From London Heathrow, where the vast majority of international travelers will be traveling through, it’s as simple as it gets to reach Tottenham Court Road Station. From either Terminal 2 or 3, you can take the Elizabeth Line to Tottenham Court Road in about 30-40 minutes. Tickets will cost about $7, and you’ll even save time when compared to a cab because the train passes by all of London’s (pretty terrible) traffic.

How to get to Tottenham Court Road from Kings Cross Station

If you’re taking the train into London from other British cities or even continental Europe (the Paris to London train connection continues to be a marvel), you’ll likely end up at the Kings Cross Station. From there, you can reach Tottenham Court Road via the Tube on the Victoria Line in about 15 minutes. You’ll get off at the Warren Street Stop, which is situated right on Tottenham Court Road.

Things to do near Tottenham Court Road

British Museum

One of the top attractions in London, let alone the West End, this storied facility attracts about six million visitors every year and is easily the most important museum in the city. With thousands of pieces spanning seemingly the entirety of human history, you could spend a full week exploring the British Museum’s storied halls.

Although the way the British Museum came to acquire many of these artifacts, archaeological finds, and relics is deeply controversial, the vastness of the collection is without equal. You’ll be able to explore comprehensive collections of artifacts from institutions like Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome while admiring curious finds from cultures in Asia, South America, Oceania, and other corners of the globe. If you’re a history buff, the British Museum might even be the reason you booked a trip to London in the first place.

British Museum bag policy

For security purposes, all luggage and larger items are prohibited. Unfortunately, there are no left luggage offices onsite.

Monopoly Lifesized

If you’re bringing the whole family to London, you’ll need a few kid-friendly activities to break up all the museums and monuments. The perfect place to head would be Monopoly Lifesized, which is situated right on Tottenham Court Road. This immersive experience based around the iconography of the classic board game brings some levity to the at-times stuffy sightseeing of London’s historic landmarks. The name says it all, as it’s essentially a life-sized physical version of Monopoly, played on a massive board.

Trafalgar Square

One of London’s truly iconic locales, this massive public square is emblematic of the city’s history. It’s only about a 20-minute walk through the bustling West End from Tottenham Court Road, and a trip to London without at least stopping at Trafalgar Square would be a waste. The square was built (and named) to commemorate a British naval victory over the French (who else?) in the Napoleonic Wars, and features lavish statues and plinths. The crowning achievement is the towering Nelson’s Column, which is surrounded by four bronze lions. While it can get crowded during the summer months, Trafalgar Square is absolutely worth a stop as it’s an important part of London’s history, and worth a selfie with one of those ferocious bronze lions…
