Millions of people visit the park every year and it’s a terrific place to come together as a community, with lush gardens and special events happening every season. 

If you’re staying in New York for a while, consider signing up for an exercise class. One of the most exciting times to visit Bryant Park is during the winter when they set up the Winter Village, which includes holiday shops, a bar and food hall, and ice skating.

Times Square

Times Square, New York’s most famous location, needs no introduction. Situated just over a 10-minute walk away, you can explore this globally known epicenter of the city for yourself. The square is most famous for its festive holiday events, like the countdown to the New Year, but there’s so much more to see and do in its streets. The square is lined with entertainment venues, shops, and some of the best restaurants in the city, offering hours of exploration to energetic travelers.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

See the big, bustling city of New York from above at the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, the tallest skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. This skyscraper offers unbeatable views of the area, although there’s much more to do here than just look out over the observation deck. Your experience will be a blend of art, architecture and technology, beginning with a ride up to the SUMMIT in the largest external, glass bottom elevator in the world. 

Once you reach the top, you’ll find yourself in an entirely new world as you discover the art installation created by Kenzo Digital. Your senses will get a treat as you explore the interactive art experience, sure to be one of the coolest things you do in NYC. Being connected to Grand Central Station, it’s also one of the closest.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt prohibits suitcases, wheeled bags, trunks, packages, and other items measuring more than the size of a standard backpack. For security reasons, other specific items aren’t allowed in either. For your convenience, store any oversized items in your possession.

Airport travel from Grand Central Station

John F. Kennedy International Airport to Grand Central Station

JFK Airport mainly handles international flights, so chances are you might be arriving here. To get to Grand Central Station, you can take a taxi directly from the airport; the ride will take about 40 minutes. This isn’t your most affordable option since the fare will likely cost between $65.00 and $75.00.

Another alternative is to take the AirTrain from JFK Airport to Jamaica Station. From there, head to the Sutphin Boulevard / Archer Avenue / JFK Airport Subway Station and hop on Subway Line E. Grand Central is just a short walk away, or just one more subway stop on Line 6. Subway tickets only cost $2.90 in New York and the AirTrain is priced at $8.25.

LaGuardia Airport

If you’re flying in from somewhere else in the United States, you may arrive at LaGuardia Airport since it mostly accommodates domestic flights. You can take a taxi directly between the train station and airport. On average, this should only take about 10 minutes and will cost between $60.00 and $75.00.

Using public transit, you can take the Q70 SBS bus line from LaGuardia terminal to Woodside Av / 61 St. From there, transfer to train line 7 which will bring you to Grand Central. The subway and bus each cost $2.90, but since they’re valid for up to 2 hours and you can get from the airport to Grand Central in under an hour, you should be able to use the same ticket for your entire journey.

Newark Liberty International Airport

Newark is a modern but quiet airport located a bit further away than the other two mentioned above. Both international and domestic flights land here. Taking a taxi directly to Grand Central will be expensive, costing somewhere between $120.00 and $160.00, although it’s your quickest option at just 20 minutes.

Your other option is to hop on the AirTrain from Newark Airport and hop off at the Newark Airport Railroad Station. Catch a train from there to Penn Station, which is about a 20 minute walk away from Grand Central. The AirTrain is priced at $8.25 and the train ticket should cost about $13.00 to $16.00. Getting to Grand Central this way should take about an hour.

Getting around New York City from Grand Central Station

The High Line

The High Line was made from an abandoned railway track that spans nearly a mile and a half on the West Side of Manhattan. The park is beautifully landscaped and connects three of the most exciting NYC neighborhoods: Hell’s Kitchen, West Chelsea, and the Meatpacking District. 

Regularly evolving art installations, food vendors, and beautiful views of the city and river from 30 feet above street level make this a great spot to hang out for a few hours. To get here, catch train line 7 from Grand Central to 34 St-Hudson Yards and walk for 10 minutes to the park. Tickets cost $2.90.

The Guggenheim Museum

Known for both its cutting edge design and impressive collection of artwork, The Guggenheim Museum is a favorite destination for art enthusiasts in New York. The building follows a coiled design that can be appreciated by architecture lovers, and on its walls are pieces made by famous names like Picasso, Manet, Van Gogh, Degas, and more. To get here, hop on train line 5 and get off at 86 St. The Guggenheim Museum will be under 10 minutes away by foot. As usual, your train ticket will cost $2.90.

Apollo Theater

The Apollo Theater began as a burlesque theater in 1914 and was transformed into a concert hall in the 1930s. Today, it’s still one of the best known music halls in the United States. It has played an important role in the career of several musicians, including Michael Jackson with the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, and Ella Fitzgerald. 

Take train line 5 from Grand Central to 125 St, then transfer on the M101 bus at E 125 St / Lexington Av. Get off at W 125 St / Adam C Powell Blvd. Both bus and train ticket will cost $2.90, but you can use the same ticket for both.
