About Haymarket in Sydney:

Sydney’s Central Station in New South Wales has a lot of nicknames. Some people call it Central. Some call it by its full name Sydney Terminal. And some people call it Haymarket Station, a nod to the cool suburb that borders it: Haymarket. More than 84 million passengers come through this station each year.

Haymarket Station has been on the New South Wales State Heritage Register since the late 1990s. The station takes up a whole city block, with Surry Hills, Haymarket, Pitt Street, Railway Square and the city’s central business district flanking it. In actuality, Haymarket is a three-minute walk from the station.

Outside the station, visitors to New South Wales can get a better look at some of the architecture that made this train station worthy of its heritage distinction. Its clocktower stands 75-meters high and has undergone a bit of work to keep it in pristine shape. It’s built in the Gothic Revival style.

Central is homebase for trains that serve many areas in New South Wales and beyond. The first area specifically serves intercity trains, which take passengers to many places in New South Wales, as well as to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth via Adelaide and Canberra. It’s possible to catch most subway trains here, too.

There have been three incarnations of the Haymarket Station, going all the way back to the 1800s. The current station has been serving passengers since 1906.

Once you disembark in New South Wales, you’re going to want to find some luggage storage in Haymarket. Bounce works with businesses all over the world, including right here in Sydney. These businesses provide travelers with a place to stash their luggage when they need it. If you’re one of those travelers, just log onto our app to learn more about the local businesses that provide bag storage in Haymarket.

One of the scenes from “The Matrix” was shot here, and while life in Haymarket isn’t always a night at the movies, there is always something cool going on.

Here’s our picks for the coolest stuff to do here. As always, consider checking out the possibilities for luggage storage in Haymarket and beyond. Your adventures will be more fun and more comfortable if you’re not carrying your bags around.

Kangarrific Tours

This is a uniquely Aussie type of tour. Like any good trip in and around Australia, you get to see plenty of the animals that the country is known for: koalas, kangaroos and the like. However, that’s not all. This is also a food tour, complete with delish wine, beer, cheese and chocolate offerings.

You definitely want to find some bag storage in Haymarket before you take this tour, unless you think you might find a kangaroo with a pouch big enough for your bags.

Capitol Theatre

This is a stunningly beautiful theater, and the productions that it puts on are even more beautiful. This world-class theater plays shows like “Chicago” and “School of Rock.” However, it isn’t just plays and musicals that you can see here. Concerts, dance recitals and other live performance shows regularly play here.

The Australian Ballet

This one makes our list for two reasons: ballet and the Sydney Opera House, the country’s #1 tourist hot spot. The ballet company performs in the famous opera house, a fitting performance venue for one of the best ballet companies in the world. The ballet company performs both classical and contemporary works, making it appealing for just about everyone.

Chinese Garden of Friendship

Tranquility awaits you at the Chinese Garden of Friendship in Darling Harbour. The design of this garden embraces the philosophy of Chinese gardens, how they bring together stunning plants, mystical pathways, refreshing waterfalls and lakes into one harmonious whole. The garden is open most days of the year, except for Christmas and Good Friday.

If it’s a bit of relaxation you need, then you should check out your Bounce app to find luggage storage in Haymarket before you go to the gardens. These beautiful grounds deserve your undivided attention and you deserve the break from your bags.

Darling Harbour

Speaking of Darling Harbour, you really ought to visit it if you’re in Sydney. Aside from the fact that a trip here allows you to hang out near the water, there are actually quite a lot of things to do down here. This makes the harbour a good place to start an adventure, particularly if you’re really not sure what to do first. There are museums, restaurants and other kinds of entertainment just waiting for you.

Sydney Chinese New Year Festival

Quick: Where can you see the terra cotta warriors, Chinese dragons, parades and lanterns galore? If you answered, “China,” you are correct, but if you don’t happen to be in China for Chinese New Year, you may want to consider catching the festivities in Sydney. Sydney’s Chinatown knows how to celebrate the New Year. If you’re in Sydney during that time of the year, you won’t want to miss this celebration.

Transit Options:

  • Trains

People who purchase an Opal Card can ride the Metro and the trains at a discount: Members save 30%.

Additionally, you can find transportation to the airport from this terminal. Haymarket Station’s Grand Concourse is quite large. Platforms for 1 to 15 intercity and regional trains are there.

You’ll need to find platforms 16 to 25 for Sydney trains; these platforms are in the North Concourse. South Concourse has platforms 4 to 25. From there, you can catch both Intercity trains and Sydney trains.

If you must stay in Central Station for a while, you’ll find hotspot services, restrooms and restaurants, though in the latter case, you’ll find plenty of eateries just outside of the train terminal as well.
