Store your luggage around El Nido with Bounce

There are dozens of beach towns and island getaways in the Philippines, and each has its own unique angle to draw international travelers in from every corner of the globe. With hundreds of islands (some big, some small) across the country to choose from, you’ll want to figure out your travel aims and do some research before you book. If you’re looking for a slightly remote destination surrounded by stunning nature, you should consider El Nido, which is situated in Palawan.

With connecting flights from Manila to Puerto Princesa, Palawan’s capital and largest city, it’s fairly easy to reach this secluded island getaway (there’s also El Nido Airport, but it’s quite small). El Nido is famous for its remarkable natural beauty, as this coastal town is lined with soft sandy beaches surrounded by coral reefs along with lagoons that you can kayak or snorkel through. The inland terrain is also a draw, with lush jungle lined with hiking trails and topography that draws plenty of outdoorsy travelers to its sores. Some of the nearby attractions include Seven Commandos Beach, and Nagkalit-Kalit Falls, both of which are walking distance from the main town. The limestone cliffs that tower over parts of the shoreline are especially beautiful, and you can take boat tours to admire these dramatic landscapes.

Here’s everything you need to know about visiting El Nido:

Luggage storage in El Nido

You'll notice pretty quickly that El Nido, although remarkably beautiful, lacks some of the amenities and infrastructure you'll enjoy in Filipino cities like Manila. One of these amenities that's hard to come by is luggage storage. Most attractions are either outdoors or in a historic landmark so you might not be able to rely on lockers. The best way to store your bags would be a dedicated service. The easiest way to store luggage in El Nido has to be through the Bounce mobile app, which helps tourists find the most convenient storage spots and even book online when they have free wi-fi. Even business travelers (although rare) will find our conveniently located luggage storage services useful when traveling to El Nido.

Museums in El Nido

Check out the lagoons

El Nido is surrounded by multiple lagoons, which you can navigate by kayak or boat tour. You can also swim through each of these lagoons and rent some snorkeling gear to admire the marine wildlife. The (simply named) Big Lagoon is the most popular destination for travelers because it's surrounded by dramatic, limestone cliffs that tower in the background. These are quite popular, so if you want to escape the crowds, you can head through a narrow gap in the cliffs to the small lagoon which few travelers reach. It's recommended that you head to the lagoon with a guided tour. The kayak tour option lasts a little over an hour and is the best way to get the full experience.

Cathedral Cave

Another stellar geographical feature near El Nido, the nearby Pinasil Island can be reached by a short boat ride and is well worth a quick afternoon excursion. The island’s Cathedral Cave can be explored in about an hour, but it's absolutely worth it. Taking a guided tour through the cave system allows travelers to admire the stalagmites and stalactites along with pools of crystal clear water that show mesmerizing reflections of the rock formations above. If you’re claustrophobic, you can skip the cave and simply enjoy the island.

Nagkalit-Kalit Falls

A few miles inland from El Nido’s town center are the majestic Nagkalit-Kalit Waterfalls, which you can either hike to or take a ride with a motorbike taxi. Surrounded by dense jungle with lush greenery and hike-able topography, exploring this waterfall makes for the perfect outing for when you're growing tired of the beach. Even better, you can cool off after a hike by swimming in the waterfall. Taking a guided tour from the town car park is highly recommended which you can organize through your accommodations.

Shopping in El Nido

Being as small as it is, El Nido can't really offer a full shopping experience, so if your plan was to enjoy some shopping mall air conditioning for a few hours, you're out of luck. There aren't any malls or retail centers where you'll find recognizable fashion brands or designer goods. The main stretch is Church Road, which has a few shops, but even that one doesn't really constitute a full shopping spree. Keep an eye out for small stores selling shell art, jewelry, traditional Filipino basketry, and other items that make for good souvenirs or gifts. Closer to the water, you'll also find some beachwear and surf shops near Lio Beach. If you really need to get your therapy on, you better do it in cities like Manila or Cebu.

Restaurants in El Nido

El Nido Boutique & Art Cafe

The food at this stylish restaurant, although delicious, is completely secondary to the stellar views of Cadlao Mountain and the beach from its terrace. You’ll find contemporary Filipino fusion bites along with a few Italian dishes served alongside stellar craft beer from Palaweno Brewery.

Boodmo

Beer nerds might grow tired of the rice lagers on offer at every bar throughout the Philippines, so a craft brewery might be just what the doctor ordered by the time you reach El Nido. The average price of a beer is pretty affordable here even with the artisanal nature of the craft-brewed products. So Boodmo is a surprisingly great place to knock back a few on a rainy day or after a long hike. Highlights on the menu include their piney Cadlao IPA, which pairs well with their street food offerings like muscles and shrimp dumplings. If you head there on a weekend night, expect a crowd.

Trattoria Altrove

This pizzeria serves up surprisingly authentic Neapolitan pies out of its brick oven. It’s situated right in town and is a very dependable option for when you want something more familiar or are traveling with the whole family. They have authentic options on the menu but have also come up with a few stellar creations like their truffle bacon pizza (Pancetta Con Tartufo).
