Store your luggage around General Luna with Bounce

Siargao Island is one of the most underrated island destinations in Asia, even with its recent rise in popularity. With some of the best resorts in the Philippines, a trip to Siargaro, and its largest town General Luna, make for the ideal tropical getaway. You can plan a side trip from Manila to get some surfing and beaching in, or you can make General Luna your destination for a romantic trip or family vacation.

It’s a surfer’s paradise accessible via Sayak Airport, with world-class surf breaks like Cloud 9 attracting professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. There are plenty of beaches with ideal surfing conditions and wonderful beachfront towns for enjoying some local culture. Even if you don’t surf, the crystal-clear waters and beachfront lined with coconut trees make for a wonderful resort vacation (General Luna Beach is the most popular). The most beautiful village Siargao has is General Luna, but you'll want to explore the rest of the island as well, with outdoor pursuits including the wonderful Palm Forest, Sugba Lagoon, and the Magpupungko Rock Pools.

Here’s everything you need to know about visiting General Luna and Siargao Island:

Luggage storage in General Luna

Although it's the largest town on the island, General Luna is still a relatively small place without much infrastructure. You may find yourself short of options for storing your bags on travel days, especially if you're planning on surfing or hanging out at the beach before heading to your resort. Even before check-in time or after check-out time at your hotel, you should be able to store the bags there by the front desk. This isn't always convenient, though. The best and most flexible option for luggage storage General Luna has is the Bounce network.

Bounce makes it easy to store luggage through its mobile app, where you can search for and book luggage storage at the most convenient locations. Bounce also vets each location to ensure security and reliability, and also offers 247 customer support and BounceShield Protection. Plus, download our app when you have free wifi and you'll be able to find convenient luggage storage all over the world.

Magpupungko Rock Pools

If you want to take a little side adventure up the coast, you're just 45 minutes (on a moped) or half an hour (by traditional taxi) from one of the coolest geological features on the island. The Magpupungko Rock Pools are completely submerged at high tide. But when the ocean waters subside, the boulders and stones are exposed, creating individual pools of water left over and the various craters. There are small charges to drive on the road leading to the pools, and although you might expect free parking, there is a small fee for that as well.

You can spend hours exploring every nook and cranny of this area while swimming and lounging in the crystal-clear waters of these natural pools. There are cliffs further up the coast you can jump off of into the ocean. For safety purposes, you'll want to visit with advanced swimmers or a large group, while also bringing footwear appropriate for stepping over and navigating large rocks. Also, the times change daily, so keep an eye out for the scheduled low tide.

Coconut Palm Forest at the Top of the Road

You'll pass these groves of trees on your way to other destinations like Pacifico, Tayangban Cave Pool. or Magpupungko Rock Pool, and the acres of palm trees that make up the island's interior are well worth exploring. This part of the island is called ‘top of the road’ by locals, although the origin of the name remains a mystery. It's about a 20-minute ride from General Luna, about halfway to the Magpupungko Rock Pool, but there will be a trailhead you can take to explore the forest or simply admire the thousands of coconut palms from the side of the road. At sunrise, the Eastern facing vantage point will be absolutely surreal, as the silhouettes of these palm trees create stunning visuals, as the rays of light cut through these fascinating trees.

Go island hopping

You've already put plenty of effort into reaching Sarbai Island, but you can use General Luna as a base for further exploration of Guyam Island, Daku Island, and Naked Island. All three are easily reached by boat tour from the General Luna Port, and a tour of the nearest islands only takes a few hours. You'll be able to find a tour boat ride in town or your accommodations can even make a reservation for you.

Shopping in General Luna

General Luna Road

The main stretch in town is lined with a few upscale boutiques, catering to international tourists, along with surf shops and beachwear outfitters. Most interesting are the local shops selling handcrafted goods from local craftsmen. Whether you're shopping or not, you'll likely stroll down the street to pop into cafés or just get a sense of the city.

The Boardwalk and Pier

If you're interested in buying some knick-knacks or souvenirs, there are always a few enterprising merchants who set up stalls along the boardwalk and pier. The products on offer aren't exactly luxury items, but there are some handmade folk items and you never know what you're going to find.

Surf shops on Tourism Road

They knew exactly what they were doing when they named Tourism Road, as this bustling stretch between the waterfront and town is lined with boat charters, surf shops, guest rooms, cafés, bars, and restaurants.

Restaurants in General Luna

Thai Foon

If you've been surfing or swimming all day and have worked up an appetite, you can dig into hearty portions of Thai classics like their epic green curry or heaping piles of pad Thai noodles. Don't skip the mango sticky rice as a little sweet treat to end your meal.

Ceviche & Kinilaw Shack

With seafood pulled fresh from the sea every day, it shouldn't come as a surprise that this restaurant puts together some of the finest ceviche in the world. This upscale but comfortable spot is the perfect place for a few drinks and some bites or even a romantic dinner.

Las Barricas

You're in a tropical setting, so while you might not expect to find tacos steps away from this Filipino beach, these handheld creations will certainly be a welcome sight. Las Barricas specializes in Filipino and Mexican fusion food, but it's also a superb place to drink. Try the sangria if you need something to wash down their famous carnitas tacos.
