About Sea World

Sea World originally was a water ski show known as Surfers Paradise Ski Gardens and did not include any animals in the show. Located on the Gold Coast in Australia, the original show was moved to a new ski lake in 1971, and the following year, the show added dolphins and other sea animals and changed the name to Sea World. Since those humble beginnings, Sea World has grown to include rides, animals shows and exhibits, and other amazing attractions.

Sea World also is an education, rescue, and rehabilitation center for injured, sick, or orphaned sea life. Although, land animals have also been seen being cared for at Sea World when the need arises. Sea World is now a part of the Warner Bros Movie World and the Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast.

While exploring Sea World, take the time to visit the dolphin nursery pool where the young dolphins that were born at Sea World are carefully monitored. Visit Ray Reef, where you can meet several different stingrays and even feed a few of them. Watch the Penguin Encounter and marvel at the Antarctic penguins swimming in a large pool. Check out the Little Penguins at Penguin Point. Take in the only polar bear exhibit in Australia, Polar Bear Shores, where you can see the polar bears from three different observations levels.

Fun Fact: Sea World was not associated with the SeaWorlds in the United States until 1983 when Warner Brothers purchased the amusement park from Pivot Leisure.
