Store Your Luggage Around Antalya With Bounce

Settled by the Attalid Dynasty of Pergamon in 200 BC, Antalya is one of the oldest cities in Turkey. Romans took over a short time later and built up the city with many monuments such as Hadrian’s Gate. Antalya was taken by the Seljuk Sultanate in 1207 and Ottoman Empire in 1391. It was transferred to Italy after WWI before being recaptured by Turkey.

Today over one million people live in Antalya, and more than 12.5 million tourists visit every year. The city is located on the Turquoise Coast (Turkish Riviera) and bordered by the Taurus Mountains, making it a fantastic place for vacationers. In fact, it is the largest international sea resort in Turkey. Whether you are looking for water fun or want to stay on the land, the city has many parks to explore and enjoy.

The climate is another reason for tourists to flock to Antalya. The average high is a nice 76 degrees with an average low of 57 degrees. From June through September, the temps are in the high 80s and low 90s, making the summer a perfect time for beachgoers. Choose from over a dozen public beaches such as Lara Beach, Bambus Beach, or Konyaalti Beach. Don’t forget to bring some sunscreen and a towel.

Antalya City Guide

Top Things to Do

Take a tour of the city by bus, bike, or foot to see some of the major tourist attractions like the Hadrian Castle Gate, Kursunlu Waterfall, and the Hidirlik Tower. Or just pick some spots you want to visit in town and hire a taxi or rideshare company to take you. Of course, you can also take a bus, train, or tram to wherever you want to go. There is so much to do in Antalya, it is best to plan your itinerary before your trip. Bounce can help with that.

Museums

As one of the oldest cities in Turkey, you can visit many memorials and ruins like the Aspendos Theater from 80 AD, the ancient Perge from 1300 BC, or Captain Euromos’ Sarcophagus from the 15th century. Museums can be found all over the city as well, with over 30 to choose from.

  • Antalya Museum: This is the best archaeological museum in the city and is found on Konyaaltı Caddesi. From sarcophagi, statues, and other relics, you can see the meticulous detail the ancient builders put into their work. The items and artifacts were collected from neighboring ancient cities and go back over 3,000 years. Admire tributes to Alexander the Great, Apollo, Artemis, and Aphrodite as well as many others. With 12 exhibition rooms as well as an outdoor sculpture garden, it takes up almost 323,000 square feet.
  • Antalya Toy Museum: For a fun twist, why not visit the Antalya Toy Museum? The collection of more than 3,000 toys can be found on Yat Limani Sok off of Varyant Sok. See rare dollhouses, toys built in the first toy factories after the industrial revolution, and antique foreign toys from all over the world. From Smurfs to Mickey Mouse and Nasreddin Hodja and donkey, you'll love the variety here.
  • Sandland Open Air Museum: If you have never seen an outdoor museum, you have to visit this one while you are in Antalya. There are 20 mythical and historical figures made out of sand, with detailed descriptions for each one. You can also watch a movie about the artisans who crafted the stunning sand monuments. Take some selfies with Buddhas, Pharaohs, and pyramids or go inside and learn to build your own sand creation. Sandland is right next to Lara Beach so you can go swimming afterward.

Shopping

Shopping in Antalya is a unique experience whether you shop at the street market, bazaars, shopping malls, or department stores. The locals will sell handmade items like clothing, jewelry, pottery, and artwork on the street or in the markets. For name brands, head to one of the malls in town.

  • TerraCity Mall: The largest shopping mall in Antalya has everything you need and then some. There are more than 175 stores. Browse Pierre Cardin, Hugo Boss, Gap, Pandora, and Samsung. Work up an appetite and grab a quick bite at Subway, McDonald’s, Pidem, and Ozsüt. They even have a supermarket at this huge retail outlet.
  • Iki Kapilar Hani: For those who want to find a little bit of everything from homemade items to wholesale clothing, Iki Kapilar Hani is the best place in the city. You can find this indoor bazaar between İsmet Paşa Caddesi and Kazım Özalp Caddesi just north of the Kaleiçi District. Dating back to the 15th century, this is the oldest bazaar in the country. Look for those small and quiet shops and stalls for the most unique and best deals.
  • Old Town Antalya: In the heart of the city, Kaleici, also known as Old Town Antalya, is a network of alleys and narrow streets from the Roman era. You can peruse the quaint shops and boutiques along the cobblestone streets where the shopkeepers typically sit outside and watch the tourists go by. Most of the items are souvenirs and other touristy things, but you can find some treasures if you look hard enough.

Dining

Turkish tastes can be described as Ottoman cuisine. Typical savory items include corba, borek, dolma, sarma, and pilav. Meat is not high on the list of foods with many in Antalya, but you can find chicken, veal, and fish at nearly every establishment.

  • Vanilla Lounge: Located on Hesapci Sokak in Old Town Antalya, the Vanilla Lounge boasts a variety of different flavors and tastes. From ribeye steaks with wild mushroom tagliatelle to braised beef short ribs, you may think you are at a western steak house, but the Ottoman architecture will assure you that you are still in Turkey. The menu varies depending on the season because the chef uses only fresh local produce.
  • Rokka: Looking for some pizza? Try it at this cute little restaurant in Haşim İşcan Mah. Their pizza may not be what you would expect though, and you will never taste another like this anywhere else. They also serve falafel wraps, hummus, salads, and vegan rolls. The Mediterranean flavors will make your taste buds perk up no matter what you order.
  • Beerzone: This place may be named for beer, but it is more well-known for burgers. They are so popular that they have two locations in Antalya: one on Fener Mahallesi and another on Hesapçı Sokak. Their burgers are unique, with different toppings and flavors. The Zombie is popular, which is a burger with fried mozzarella on top, but they also have hotdogs, wings, fries, and much more.
