About Kuta

Whether you’re going on a honeymoon or looking for an exotic place for the family, Bali is one of the top island destinations to travel to. With miles upon miles of sandy beaches boasting some of the best conditions you’ll find anywhere, Bali is both a surfer’s and a sunbather’s dream. Of course, the coastline is dotted with both high-end resorts and charming fishing villages, offering travelers a wide range of travel experiences.

Bali is hardly just a place to bum around the beach, either. Outdoor enthusiasts will relish the many hiking trails and other activities. Curious travelers are also able to take a deep dive into Balinese culture at the Kuta Art Market or explore the many local shops and markets.

Partiers will doubtless have heard of Kuta’s famous (perhaps infamous) nightclub scene. It’s rightly been referred to as the “Ibiza of Asia'' as it attracts thousands of twenty-somethings and clubbers from around the world. Kuta Beach is a go-to destination for Australians looking for an exotic locale to catch some waves and party for a few days. It’s not all partying, as there are plenty of kid-friendly activities that attract families from around the world. There are waterparks, zip-lining, and other fun outlets to keep the kids engaged.

Kuta Beach is generally reached by flying into the nearby Ngurah Rai International Airport. The airport is just a few miles from Kuta, making it as simple as it gets to reach your resort or hotel. Here’s everything you need to know:

Does Kuta Beach have storage lockers?

Kuta Beach doesn’t offer official lockers onsite. In any case, common luggage lockers aren’t always large enough to accommodate heavy bags. Your best bet would be to find storage locations near the beach operated through a service like Bounce.

How do you store luggage in Bali?

There are a few luggage storage options to choose from in Kuta, but they’re not all created equally. Some hotels might take your bags for a few hours, but this might not be the most convenient option if your hotel is out of the way. Most attractions won’t offer luggage storage, and the beaches don’t operate luggage lockers, either. The best option would be a luggage storage service like Bounce.

Bounce partners with local shops around the world to provide our customers with the most convenient locations, and we have plenty of secure luggage storage locations near Kuta Beach. You can find the most convenient place to store your luggage with Bounce’s mobile app. All you’ll have to do is show the attendant your confirmation code, and you’ll be on your way. Once you’re done scuba diving or lounging on the beach, simply head back to the storage spot and pick up your luggage. It’s that simple!

Can I store luggage in Bali airport?

Ngurah Rai International Airport does offer limited luggage storage through its lockers. The storage area and office are situated at the International Departures Terminal’s main entrance. Each item will have to pass a security screening and a boarding pass is required.

Can you store luggage at a hotel you're not staying at?

Many local hotels might take your bags even if you’re not a guest, but this isn’t always the case. It’s highly advisable to call ahead to see if the bellhops and concierge will take your bag without needing a room reservation. Otherwise, you might end up in a bind. The best Kuta luggage storage option might not be a hotel, regardless of whether the bellhop will take it. A luggage storage service is more of a sure thing.

How to get to Kuta

  • Bus: The only public transportation network available in Kuta is its bus system, which is easily the most affordable way to get around. A one-way ride costs less than a dollar, and it serves Kuta and Kuta Beach pretty well. The Koridor II route runs between the airport and Nisa Dua, and you can use the Raya Kuta 3 stop to get to Kuta Beach.
  • Taxi: One of the more common ways to get around, taxis are readily available from the airport and almost every resort will have a preferred taxi carrier it will call for its guests. Bluebird Taxi has the best reputation and largest fleet of vehicles. Cab rides will generally cost less than $15 unless the destination is pretty far away. With Bluebird Taxi, you can book your cab for a fare upfront, which takes the guesswork out of it.
  • Rideshare: The most popular rideshare provider in Indonesia is Grab, which is a like-for-like alternative to Uber. You’ll have a simple time grabbing one from anywhere in Kuta. One thing that's extremely useful for touring multiple landmarks and attractions is you can hire a driver for periods of time (up to 10 hours). The “Grab Rent” product is a must for hitting multiple stops around Bali.
  • Walking: If you’re getting around Kuta and Kuta Beach, it’s easy enough to walk between spots.
  • Driving: Renting a car costs between $20 and $30 per day with some fees, which is extremely affordable when compared to other countries. If you’re traveling with the family to a destination like Bali Safari and Marine Park, renting a car would certainly make more sense. If you’re just planning on hanging around the resort, it wouldn’t make sense to go through the trouble. It should be noted that traffic in Bali can be quite chaotic, with scores of motorbikes buzzing around the streets and questionable road conditions almost everywhere.

How to get to Kuta from Ngurah Rai International Airport

Kuta Beach is situated very close to Ngurah Rai International Airport, which might explain its popularity among foreign travelers. The cheapest way to get here is by bus, with the Koridor II route stopping near Kuta Beach at the Raya Kuta 3 stop. This costs about $0.50 and takes 40 minutes. While this is basically free, you can also take a pretty affordable taxi from the airport right to the beach or your resort in about 15-20 minutes.

Things to do near Kuta

Kuta Beach (if that’s not too obvious)

This one is a given, especially if you’re a younger traveler looking for a lively beach experience. But Kuta Beach is the most popular in Bali for a reason. The sunsets are famously stunning, with an entirely westward-facing vantage point.

Though it's very crowded, Kuta Beach is spacious enough for beach soccer, volleyball, and other activities. The vibe is very energetic, with scores of younger (usually Australian) tourists partying all afternoon and into the evening. The location near downtown Kuta also makes it ideal for grabbing drinks or meals at the many nightclubs and seafood restaurants. Jalan Kartika Plaza and Jalan Pantai Kuta are the main stretches to check out. Both of these are within a short walk of Kuta Beach.

Bali Bombing Memorial

Built to memorialize the victims of the Legion bombing in 2002, this beautiful monument is situated between Kuta and Legian. It’s also known as Ground Zero, and it offers a poignant message about violence and prejudice. The monument features detailed carvings on a large sandstone obelisk, with names and countries of the victims of the bombing.

Tanah Lot Temple

Traveling to Indonesia without visiting at least one temple would be a waste. Luckily, one of Bali’s best is a manageable drive from Kuta Beach in a gorgeous seaside location. Set atop an outcrop from the mainland, Tanah Lot is a Hindu shrine surrounded by crashing waves on three sides. The temple grounds also feature wonderful gardens and pathways for a contemplative stroll. You’ll need to visit at low tide, as the outcrop becomes a causeway when the water recedes, and it becomes an island once the tide returns. You can hire a car for the day to drive the 12 miles from Kuta Beach to Beraban, a picturesque fishing village with delightful stores and restaurants to hit before or after visiting the shrine.

Seminyak Beach

There’s no sugarcoating it, the crowds at Kuta Beach can be a tad overwhelming at times. For many clubbers and younger travelers, this is the whole idea. But for families and honeymooners, seeking calmer settings is a common theme, even if they’re staying at resorts in Kuta. The closest beach that offers a more tranquil atmosphere would be nearby Seminyak Beach. It offers some of the best surfing conditions, and plenty of space for novice surfers to comfortably catch a few waves while learning. It’s also incredibly popular for horseback riding along the beach, in case you really wanted that romantic getaway to mimic the rom-com.

Luggage storage near Kuta

With its stunning beaches, spiritual sites, and outdoor activities, Bali offers honeymooners, partiers, and families a complete travel experience. Getting around the island can require quite a bit of logistical planning, and sometimes that includes a few times when you’ll want a secure place to store the bags. If you need to store your luggage anywhere in Bali, your best bet will certainly be through the Bounce network.
