Christchurch is a city in New Zealand and is the biggest one in the country’s South Island. Situated on the island’s east coast, Christchurch is the second-most populous city in New Zealand, just after Auckland. In the past, most people head to the South Island mainly to see Queenstown, usually passing up a visit to Christchurch. However, the city has gradually become a more famous destination for tourism, education, and industrial purposes and has built a solid reputation as a must-see in New Zealand. Right at the heart of the city is Christchurch Central City, also known simply as City Centre.
The geographical heart of the Christchurch, the City Centre refers to the area found within the four avenues of Bealey, Deans, Fitzgerald, and Moorhouse and serves as the main hub for business, education, and recreation. During the 2010 Canterbury Earthquake and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, the City Centre was destroyed and became completely inaccessible apart from the contractors who rebuilt the area. After an intense period of rebuilding, the area was successfully reconstructed in 2013 using modern building standards to minimize possible damage in the event of another earthquake. With its historic landmarks, green spaces, and several points of interest, the City Centre remains to be one of the top places to see in all of Christchurch.
Fun fact: The City Centre is actually laid out in a grid pattern and is relatively flat, just like the rest of the city of Christchurch.
The City Centre of Christchurch is an excellent example of old meets new – the area is filled with some of New Zealand’s oldest heritage buildings as well as some modern and cutting-edge architecture. There are also plenty of picturesque landscapes and green spaces for those who want to enjoy nature. Here are some of the top things to do in the City Centre.
Relax and enjoy the outdoors at Hagley Park, which is the biggest urban open space in the entire city of Christchurch
Ride a punt boat across the Avon River and take in the beautiful sights
Visit the Christchurch Cathedral, which is located at the heart of the City Centre
Check out the different heritage-listed attractions at Cathedral Square
Pay homage to the fallen soldiers during World War I at the Bridge of Remembrance, located at Cashel Street
Catch one of the many shows held at the Isaac Theatre Royal
Board the Christchurch Tramway and go on a guided journey around the city
See and appreciate some of the best local and international art at the Christchurch Art Gallery
Go on a unique museum visit at Quake City, where you can learn about the earthquakes that rocked the city in recent years

For over 150 years, the Botanic Gardens has served as one of Christchurch’s most popular tourist spots and is a beloved green space in the heart of the city.

Convenient to the Met, which does not allow luggage at coat check. Very easy check in and check out process, with lovely people at the front!
This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
Can’t believe I haven’t used this service until now. So easy & convenient. I 100% recommend.
I used Bounce during a recent trip to NYC, and I was pleasantly surprised at the ease and convenience of the process. To be honest, at first, I was very apprehensive. The thought of leaving your stuff at a random store, in a place where you are not from and you don't know whether is safe or not, it doesn't matter if anyone gives it a seal of approval, its difficult to be completely comfortable with the idea. However, I was very glad to be proven wrong. The place I chose was a great, clean bodega/deli in Soho and they were very responsive and the whole process felt very seamless. It was our last day in NYC and we had the full day before leaving the city, however our Airbnb was on the upper east side so we did not want to have to go back and forth. I would definitely recommend Bounce for travelers, especially when you need a place to just store your luggage for the day. The price could not be beat (since its for the whole day) and I will definitely be using this again!
Fantastic experience with Bounce! Stored a bag at the Grand Central location and on my last day at the 9/11 Memorial location. Both locations had friendly, efficient staff that were helpful and made everything very easy. Such a great option if your hotel isn't ready or you don't want the hassle of a bag in the city. Great, safe option. Thanks Bounce!
