About City Centre Christchurch
Christchurch is a city in New Zealand and is the biggest one in the country’s South Island. Situated on the island’s east coast, Christchurch is the second-most populous city in New Zealand, just after Auckland. In the past, most people head to the South Island mainly to see Queenstown, usually passing up a visit to Christchurch. However, the city has gradually become a more famous destination for tourism, education, and industrial purposes and has built a solid reputation as a must-see in New Zealand. Right at the heart of the city is Christchurch Central City, also known simply as City Centre.
The geographical heart of the Christchurch, the City Centre refers to the area found within the four avenues of Bealey, Deans, Fitzgerald, and Moorhouse and serves as the main hub for business, education, and recreation. During the 2010 Canterbury Earthquake and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, the City Centre was destroyed and became completely inaccessible apart from the contractors who rebuilt the area. After an intense period of rebuilding, the area was successfully reconstructed in 2013 using modern building standards to minimize possible damage in the event of another earthquake. With its historic landmarks, green spaces, and several points of interest, the City Centre remains to be one of the top places to see in all of Christchurch.
