Train

The train is the easiest way to get to Fukuoka from the Fukuoka Airport. This is reflected on the Fukuoka Airport official website as well. You will need to take a short walk to platform 2, where you will enter Higashi-Hie Station. You will then get on the train toward Chikuzen-Maebaru. The train ride takes ten minutes and you will get off at the Hakata Station. The ride will cost you $1.50.

Bus

You can also catch the bus from the terminal to head away from Fukuoka Airport to the downtown area. This bus ride takes 15 minutes and costs $1.50. You can get an IC card in advance so you just have to tap it to pay as you enter the bus. Otherwise, you can pay the bus driver in cash as you enter the bus.

Car

You can hire a car to take you from the airport to downtown. This trip will take 11 minutes. The cost of car hires varies significantly depending on the provider of the service. Various ridesharing providers operate in the area of the airport and you can also hire one of them or a taxi if you would rather use this method to travel.

Higashi Hirao Park

This large park is easy to get to from the Fukuoka Airport. There is a sports stadium here, lots of walking paths and even activities like grass skiing. Tochoji Temple

Simply hop on the bus to Fukuoka, and you will be able to see this beautiful, pagoda-style temple. The temple houses a huge Buddha statue, which you can go inside and check out. The tiered roofline of the temple is easy to spot as soon as you are close by, so you will have no trouble finding this location on foot. Kushida Shrine

This shrine is said to have been founded in 757 CE. It is dedicated to Amaterasu and Susanoo. The Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival takes place each year at the shrine as well. The largest otafuku mask in Japan is housed inside the shrine and many people come to the fountain on the shrine's grounds to pray for eternal youth. The Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival takes place from the 1st to the 15th of July each year and includes parades through the streets with beautiful floats.

Canal City Hakata

This large local shopping mall offers a canal that flows through the center of the building as well as a theater and lots of shops and places to eat. The theater hosts shows like musicals and the tickets are affordable for performances here. This is the ideal place to get souvenirs for people at home or to enjoy a few hours of retail therapy at unique boutique shops. Even if you are not that interested in shopping during your vacation, the mall here is a full experience that anyone can enjoy.

Sumiyoshi Shrine

This beautiful open-air shrine has lots of lovely scenery, as well as a bit of peace and quiet inside of the city center. Active worshippers are always present at this location, so you will need to be respectful and quiet as you visit this area. The Sumiyoshi statue is very impressive and there are places to buy amulets and trinkets for protection within the complex as well. There are a couple of different local festivals that are held at this shrine as well, so if your timing is good you might be able to participate in these activities during your visit.
