Kanazawa is a historic city that is rich in culture, making it a perfect destination for both locals and tourists in Japan. It is one of the jewels of the Land of the Rising Sun, with offerings that are hard to find anywhere else in the country. To get the full Kanazawa experience, don't miss the following places.

Museums

Kanazawa has a rich cultural heritage and arts background, and its colorful history is well-exhibited through the different museums found in the city. While there is a dizzying amount of museums in Kanazawa, these are the ones you shouldn’t miss to fully grasp the city’s essence.

  • 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art: This is one of Kanazawa’s most popular museums and is home to a fantastic permanent collection of artworks created from 1980 onwards by notable Japanese and international contemporary artists such as Gerhard Richter, Francis Alys, and Matthew Barney. There are also plenty of optical illusions and interactive displays in the museum. (Bag policy: Bags of all sizes must be checked in the designated lockers or at the ticket booth if it’s too large. A safer alternative is to store your bags with Bounce before you head to the museum.)

  • DT Suzuki Museum: The museum, which was named after the world-famous Buddhist philosopher, is dedicated to sharing the work and beliefs of Suzuki and how his Eastern ideas broke into the Western world. The building features a minimalist Zen design and is one of Kanazawa’s most important museums. (Bag policy: Oversized bags are not permitted inside the galleries of the museum. What you can do, is find a Bounce location within the area and drop off your items there.)

  • Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of History: This museum, formerly the Kanazawa College of Art until it was transformed into a museum in 1986, has a focus on the culture and history of the Ishikawa Prefecture – from the start the Jomon era up until the creation of modern Ishikawa. (Bag policy: The museum poses some restrictions on guests’ bags and luggage. To avoid any problems during your visit, leave your things with Bounce.)

Convenient to the Met, which does not allow luggage at coat check. Very easy check in and check out process, with lovely people at the front!

This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
