About the airport

The capital and overall center of gravity for Western Australia, Perth is a quintessential travel destination for experiencing the best of down under. There are lovely public parks (like the massive King’s Park) and a comfortable but lovely city center. Situated on the banks of the Swan River and with miles of beachfront on the Indian Ocean, Perth perfectly encapsulates the outdoor lifestyle that Aussies enjoy.

Perth also functions as a wonderful starting point for exploring the rugged Outback terrain to the west, with guides and tours operating out of the city. Perth’s nightlife may not hit the highs of the famously rowdy Melbourne, but the bar and restaurant scene are incredible, featuring a best-of-the-best of Western Australia. The fun spills out into the countryside, as well, as there are numerous wineries and small towns worth exploring.

Because Perth is situated on the far West side of the island, it’s only accessible from other major Australian cities like Melbourne and Sydney through air travel. Almost all domestic travel from the Eastern portion of the country is routed through Perth Airport. This also includes many international flyers who have made connections in major hubs like Sydney Airport.

Perth Airport is still one of the busiest in Australia, being the major transportation hub for Western Australia. The airport’s four terminals, handle domestic, international, and regional flights, and there’s even a terminal for charter flights. Just about every amenity available is on offer at Perth Airport, and it’s remarkably well-connected with the city, making Perth an easy launching point for sightseeing or traveling through the countryside.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Can I store luggage at Perth Airport?

Amenities and a smooth travel process make it easy to enjoy Perth Airport, including luggage storage. The best option for luggage storage Perth Airport has available are a series of lockers located in the T1 International, T1 Domestic, T3 Domestic, and T4 Domestic areas. These luggage storage facilities can be rented for a period of 24 hours and have to be booked at a kiosk and accessed with a PIN code. This service does not come with direct access to customer service, and the location outside the city center makes it inconvenient for anything more than a short layover.

Can you store luggage at Perth Train Station?

Unfortunately, Perth Train Station doesn’t offer station lockers or any other luggage storage services. But luckily enough, you’re certainly not short of options for finding a place to store your luggage. You’ll be able to find luggage storage near the train station and throughout Perth’s city center along with outer neighborhoods and suburbs like Fremantle. Still, Perth’s public transportation system remains a perfectly viable option for getting around, you’ll just want to arrange your luggage storage ahead of time - ideally with Bounce.

What are the best Perth luggage storage options?

Hotels like Pan Pacific Perth will offer a bag drop-off at the concierge, even before check-in. This is often complimentary, but it doesn’t always fit with the flow of your travel. If You're trying to sightsee on a travel day, it will usually make more sense to find a place to store your bags near the attractions you’re trying to see. The Bounce luggage storage facilities can help you store luggage wherever you need.

How does Bounce work?

Services like Bounce offer affordable luggage storage through a vast network of partner locations (usually local shops) in cities like Perth. With dozens of convenient baggage storage locations, you’ll have an easy time finding a secure place to keep your bags, even if it’s for just a few hours. Our mobile app also makes it easy to find and book luggage storage ahead of time, or even on the go. Unlike luggage lockers at train stations or shopping centers, Bounce comes with premium features like 24/7 customer support and BounceShield Protection that ensure quality and security.

How to get to the city from Perth Airport

  • Bus: Buses run frequently from the airport, though it’s not necessarily the quickest way to get to Perth Station in the city. From Terminals T1 and T2, you can take the #37 from Airport Central Station to Oats Street Station. From T3 or T4, the #940 and #282 buses run daily to Redcliffe Station and Elizabeth Quay Bus Station in the city. Buses typically take between 40 and 70 minutes, though they only cost $4 per ride.
  • Train: The Airport Line train is the faster public transit method and probably the best option for getting to the city center. The route runs directly between Airport Central Station at T1 and T2 and takes less than 20 minutes to reach Perth Station. A train ride costs only $5. Unfortunately, T3 and T4 aren’t directly connected to the Airport Line trains, although there are plans in place. You'll need to take a bus from the Airport train station to T3 and T4, which adds about 10 minutes to the commute.
  • Taxi and rideshare: The ride into Perth CBD from the airport only takes about 20 minutes. At the arrivals area of every terminal, there will be dedicated taxi stands and you basically won't have to wait for a ride. With Uber or other rideshare services, you'll head to a dedicated pickup area at arrivals. A cab or Uber will cost about $40 to $70 depending on traffic.
  • Car rental: Renting a car is the most expensive option, but it also might make the most sense depending on your travel plans. Perth is surrounded by wonderful national parks and destinations for outdoor recreation. Camping and hiking opportunities are everywhere. There are also plenty of wineries located in the hills inland from Perth. It costs between $100 and $200 per day to rent a car, so you’ll want to make sure you really need a car before you book.

Things to do near Perth Airport

Kings Park & Botanic Garden

Over a thousand acres of leafy glory, Kings Park includes sprawling lawns for picnicking and sports and is one of the city’s top attractions. No ordinary botanic garden, the expansive green spaces of Kings Park Botanic Garden put run-of-the-mill city parks to shame. It’s home to over 3,000 different plant species and does as good a job as any at showcasing the highly unique indigenous flora of Western Australia. There's a monolithic boab tree that crowns the garden’s grove that is almost 800 years old. You can soar through the Eucalyptus forest on the Federation Walkway for epic views of the park and city. There are also fields of wildflowers where there’s a festival based around a super-bloom that happens every September, among other frequent events held at the Botanic Gardens.

The Perth Mint

While it certainly sounds weird for a mint to be a top tourist attraction, Perth’s storied establishment has a fascinating enough history to justify the thousands of visitors every week. In the late 18th century, Perth was home to Australia's largest gold rush, which made it one of the most important places in the British Empire at the time. In order to turn the gold collected from the ground into currency, the Empire set up this moneymaking (literally) facility in the center of Perth. Visitors can take a tour to learn about how British coins were first produced in Perth along with how political and currency changes have impacted the Perth Mint.

Elizabeth Quay

On nights and weekends, the place to be is this buzzy waterfront district on the Swan River. It’s an entertainment complex and shopping center that showcases local Perth businesses. You’ll find indie boutiques along with food trucks and pop-ups. Set under the massive Elizabeth Quay Bridge, you’ll enjoy epic views of the structure along with the skyline. It’s the perfect place for an evening or sunset stroll. And with exceptional restaurants, it's not the worst idea for date night.

The Bell Tower

Situated on Elizabeth Quay, it’s hard to miss this towering spire made with glimmering copper and glass. While the architecture is undoubtedly modern, it houses 18 bells sourced from historic locations like Buckingham Palace. Because the structure is included in the measurements, Elizabeth Quay’s Bell Tower is considered one of the world’s largest musical instruments. The bells will ring from noon until 1 pm every Thursday and Sunday. While you won't have to get too close to hear their booming songs, you can tour the interior to learn about where each bell came from. Even better, you’ll have access to the observation deck for epic views of the city and waterfront.

Luggage storage near Perth Airport

Because of its relative isolation from major destinations like Sydney and Melbourne, most international travelers will tack Peth onto a larger trip and fly through Perth Airport for a few days. Because of the additional travel, plenty of visitors find themselves in need of a place to leave their bags. With the most functional service and best locations, Bounce is easily the best choice!
