It was initially opened in 1952 and saw a $1 billion redo and expansion in 1992. The airport is seeing more in the way of expansion and upgrading, and is the second busiest airport in Pennsylvania. It is also the first airport in the country to allow visitors who are not flying to shop beyond the security gates. This makes for a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. With great places to eat and interesting shops to explore, Pittsburgh airport is perfect for those who like to do a bit of wandering, without being too overwhelmed.
