The Aerodromo de Playa del Carmen, also known as National Airport Playa del Carmen or simply Playa del Carmen Airport, is a small airport found in the resort town of the same name. The airport is tiny and has little activity, with a small runway that is only 700 meters long, which means it can only receive planes that are small to medium in size. 

The Playa del Carmen Airport is a regional airport and accepts no international flights; most of the planes that fly into and out of the airport are either pilots for chartered or private planes or air taxis. These air taxis are exactly what their names suggest – planes that can be hired to take you from nearby areas into Playa del Carmen. Aside from that, the airport also has a strong military presence and is also the spot where skydiving planes take off from. 

Playa del Carmen Airport is located just south of the 5th Avenue, which is the resort town’s popular pedestrian-only street, on a land strip between the downtown area and Playacar. However, while it is the only airport in the highly-famous tourist destination and close to most of the central areas, don’t expect to be able to enter Playa del Carmen through the airport (unless you have your own plane or will be taking an air taxi). In fact, most international tourists and visitors enter through the nearby Cancun International Airport before getting a transfer to Playa del Carmen. 

Fun fact: While the airport is small and doesn’t really receive a lot of commercial flights, it has its own airport code – PCM.
