Store Your Luggage Around Reno With Bounce

Reno is a city found on the northwest side of the U.S. state of Nevada, nestled between Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevadas and just close to the California state line. Commonly referred to as the “Biggest Little City in the World,” Reno got its name from Union Major General Jesse L. Reno, who died in action during the American Civil War. While Reno is often overshadowed by its flashier and more luxurious sister, Las Vegas, Reno has a vast range of educational, cultural, and entertainment attractions that can keep you busy for days. Like Las Vegas, Reno’s main industry is tourism, especially its casino scene, which draws over five million visitors every year.

Reno has plenty of fun and unique activities and attractions, including bowling tournaments, hot-air balloon rides, automobile shows, and more. Additionally, the city is a great base or stopover for those planning to see the famous Lake Tahoe, which is just a 45-minute drive away. Reno City Guide

Top Things to Do

Although Reno is best known for its casinos, those looking for a different experience can still enjoy other activities and cultural experiences. From museums to incredible restaurants, there’s no shortage of things to do in the “Biggest Little City in the World.”

Museums

What Reno lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its selection of quality museums that can rival any larger city. There are numerous world-class museums in Reno that you should definitely see when in the area, including the following:

  • Nevada Museum of Art: Located south of downtown Reno, the Nevada Museum of Art is the city’s most renowned museum. This is because it is the only museum in the state of Nevada that is accredited by the American Alliance Museum. The award-winning facility was designed by prominent architect Will Bruder. It has an incredible collection of traditional and contemporary art, including paintings, photography, digital media, and more. Furthermore, the museum’s outside area is filled with numerous permanent exhibits, including some unique pieces from the famous Burning Man festival. The museum also has drinks and live music every first Thursday of the month. (Bag policy: Oversized bags or backpacks are not allowed inside the galleries. Instead, head over to a nearby Bounce location and drop off your things there.)
  • National Automobile Museum: Whether or not you’re a fan of cars, you will definitely appreciate a visit to Reno’s National Automobile Museum. As its name suggests, the facility’s exhibits consist of historic vehicles and automobiles of the 19th and 20th centuries. This collection of about 1,450 automobiles was actually owned by late casino owner William “Bill” F. Harrah, which is why the museum is also dubbed by locals as “The Harrah Collection.” While there were plenty of attempts to buy Harrah’s automobiles, a nonprofit organization ultimately gained possession of the collection and built a museum to exhibit it. (Bag policy: The museum has no strict policy regarding carrying of bags inside. However, if you want to keep your hands free to take photographs, which is allowed in the facility, it’s best to leave your things with Bounce.)
  • Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum: Also known simply as “The Discovery,” this museum is one of Reno’s most popular attractions and a family favorite. The 67,000-square-foot space has exhibitions that focus on science, technology, engineering history, and art and is meant to get your creative juices flowing. Visitors of all ages can enjoy educational displays and try the different learning spaces and interactive areas. This one-of-a-kind museum is a definite must-see when in Reno. (Bag policy: All types of luggage or large bags are not allowed inside the museum. To avoid any inconvenience, look for a Bounce partner nearby and store your things there.)

Shopping

Reno has plenty to offer when it comes to shopping; the city is filled with large malls and shopping districts with numerous shops and stalls to choose from. If you want to explore some of the city’s best retail spots, check out the following places:

  • California Avenue: For the most unique Reno shopping experience, head over to California Avenue, nestled between the streets of Virginia and Arlington. Here, you will find a number of quaint and locally-owned boutiques and shops that offer a variety of products and goods.
  • Midtown District: The Midtown District is a growing favorite in the city’s shopping scene, with over 20 shops in the area, most of which are owned by locals. From vintage boutiques and thrift shops to book shops and record stores, you will surely enjoy going through the different retail spots here. Some cool finds in the area are Junkee Clothing Exchange, Nomad Boutique, Sundance Bookstore, and Sierra Belle.
  • Riverwalk District: The Riverwalk District, which is found along the Truckee River, is one of Reno’s most popular spots for shopping and dining. Here, you’ll find a fascinating collection of independent boutiques, souvenir shops, art galleries, antique stores, and more.

Dining

For such a small town, Reno has a diverse and exciting dining scene that caters to all tastes. Here are some of the best eateries that you will find in the city:

  • American favorites: Reno has multiple restaurants that offer classic American dishes and other favorites. One of the local institutions is Squeeze In, a Reno-based eatery with locations in Nevada and California and known for its American breakfast. Other American restaurants in the city are Gold n’ Silver Inn, Great Full Gardens Café and Eatery, Rattlesnake Club, and Old Granite Street Eatery.
  • Asian cuisine: The city of Reno has a vast range of Asian joints where you can enjoy authentic Asian food, including Thai Lotus (Thai), Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar (Japanese), Chi (Chinese), Bab (Korean) and Golden Flower (Vietnamese).
  • Farm-to-table restaurants: The farm-to-table movement has reached the city of Reno, and more and more restaurants in the city are taking on the trend. Some of the best dining spots that serve farm-to-table cuisine are 4th Street Bistro, Wild River Grille, Homegrown Gastropub, Monaciello and Liberty Food & Wine Exchange.
