Sitges has a large non-native population, which gives the village a cosmopolitan vibe unique to the region.
Sitges has been settled for over 10,000 years, dating back to the Neolithic period. The village began to develop during medieval times, with the construction of a castle and the arrival of the Sitges family in the 12th century. Sitges is a maritime settlement, and its economy relies heavily on tourism and fishing.

Maricel Museum: The Maricel Museum is the most popular in Sitges and is ideal for travelers looking to learn about local culture and spend the day away from the beaches. The Maricel Museum contains artwork from the local area dating back as far as the 10th century. You'll find over 3,000 items in the museum's permanent collection, with everything from religious 15th-century murals to portraits of local figures.
The collection is split across several floors, and while perusing the exhibits, you'll see works by many famous Spanish artists and sculptors, including Josep Llimona, Marià Fortuny, and Ramon Casas. As well as containing a wide-reaching selection of art, the Maricel Museum also features relics from Sitges' maritime history, including seafaring instruments and fishing equipment. You won't want to carry your bags around this vast museum, so check in at a luggage storage service in Sitges before you vist.
Cau Ferrat Museum: Another impressive and historic art museum in Sitges is the Cau Ferrat Museum. During the late 19th and early 20th century, this house belonged to Santiago Rusiñol, a writer and celebrated artist integral to the modernisme or Catalan modernism movement. After Santiago Rusiñol's death in 1931, the house became a museum, containing an array of paintings, ceramics, glassworks, and more that Rusiñol collected during his lifetime.
Santiago Rusiñol had a fascinating collection that rivals the nearby Maricel Museum. As well as his own artwork, the Cau Ferrat Museum boasts works by Ramon Pichot, Pablo Gargallo, and Ramon Casas. The house itself is eclectically decorated and is a prime example of modernisme. You won't be able to bring any large bags into this museum, so swing by a Sitges luggage storage service first.

This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
