Taxis provide an easy and convenient way to get from the airport to the city and vice versa. Taxi fares are set by the government, and you can expect to pay AED 25 just to start the meter, followed by AED 1.60 for every kilometer after that. That means you can expect a taxi to the city to cost you around 73 AED. You can find taxis waiting at convenient locations outside the main terminals, and they provide probably the quickest way to get to the city if you have a few hours to explore.
Things to do near Abu Dhabi airport
Al Ghazal Golf Course
Located just seven minutes from Abu Dhabi and its transportation hubs, this beautiful golf course feels like it's much further from the second-largest airport in the UAE than it really is. If you only have a couple of hours to spend, this is a great place to get some exercise and play either nine or 18 holes on one of the world's largest sand golf courses. Its convenient location makes it a popular choice for travelers on a tight schedule, so take advantage of the luggage storage options in and near the airport and give this course a try for yourself.

The museum's permanent collection includes works by Manet and Gauguin, along with historical and archaeological treasures from across the United Arab Emirates. Not only will you learn more about the history and culture of the region, but you'll also be able to see masterpieces by some of the most famous names in European art, too. Additionally, the museum often stays open until midnight so that you can avoid the heat of the day and explore by night instead.

The museum does have cloakrooms available where you can store jackets or a small bag, but it doesn't have much room for large suitcases. Sheik Zayed Mosque
As probably the main tourist attraction in Abu Dhabi, we can't really talk about things to do here without mentioning this magnificent mosque.
This is the largest house of worship in the UAE, and it's an important religious institution for Muslims, but you don't have to be a believer to visit here. The mosque complex covers more than 30 acres, and its stunning Arabic architecture combined with its spotless white walls makes it an almost dreamlike place to explore. Built in 2007, the mosque may not be historic, but its library holds an impressive collection of rare books and manuscripts from across the Arab world. It's also home to what may be the world's largest carpet.
As a working mosque, you'll have to be aware of prayer times before you visit. Friday, especially, is a holy day, so you may want to visit on another day if possible. However, the beautiful architecture makes it the perfect place to immerse yourself in local culture and learn more about the faith of the region.
Be aware that like any other mosque, there are clothing restrictions in place. You won't be allowed in the with bare shoulders or knees, for example. Women must wear a headscarf to cover their head and will be given an Abaya, a loose robe that will cover them while they visit, that must be handed back at the end of your trip.
Sheik Zayed Mosque bag policy
The mosque may be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi, but its main purpose is still as a house of worship rather than as a place for foreigners to visit.
