Airport travel from Birmingham New Street Station

Birmingham Airport

Formerly known as Birmingham International Airport, this is the only airport in the city and the closest gateway to Birmingham by air. The airport is connected to the railway system and has its own train station, so it's easy to get to New Street Station once your plane arrives. 

It’s just a short 10 minute train ride to get between the two destinations, and the price for a ticket is only about £4.60. Another alternative is to take a short ride on the Air-Rail Link system, which is free to use and will bring you to the Birmingham International Station in just a few minutes. It’s easy to get here from New Street Station; just hop on a train for about 13 minutes until you reach Bournville. From there, it’s about a 15 minute walk to the chocolate factory. Black Country Living Museum

If you’re a fan of the hit series Peaky Blinders, you might already know that much of it was filmed right here in Birmingham. There’s a full tour where you can follow in the footsteps of some of your favorite characters or pay a visit to the Black Country Living Museum, where much of the filming took place. 

This Birmingham museum even puts on Peaky Blinders Nights in dedication to the series. Even if you haven’t seen the show, stop by and journey into the past at the living museum. Take a short train ride from New Street Station and get off at Wolverhampton. The museum is about a 20 minute walk away. Expect to pay about £5.00 for your train ticket. 

Moseley Bog

Now you know that Birmingham was used as a set in Peaky Blinders, but did you know that a local park also served as inspiration for the Lord of the Rings? JRR Tolkien grew up close to the Moseley Bog back in the 1890s, and this lush greenspace is said to have inspired his thinking behind the creation of The Shire. Today, it’s a nice place to take a stroll and an archaeologically important site. 

To get here, take the 15 minute train ride to Yardley Wood, followed by a short walk to the bus station on Chinn Brook. Ride the bus and hop off at Linkswood Close, and you’ll find yourself outside the park. Your train ticket will cost about £3.30, and bus tickets cost around £2.00.
