About the station
Bordeaux Saint Jean Station is the terminus of the Paris–Bordeaux railway in one direction and the Chemins de fer du Midi main line from Toulouse in the other. You can get to the Bordeaux region of France with ease on this train, and you will also be able to head from Saint Jean Station to Paris and other more populous areas of the country if you get on a train here. You will find a cafe and local shops right near the abbey, so even if you arrive and cannot get inside, you will be able to find fun things to do.
Vieux Bordeaux
This shopping street in the heart of the city center is a great place to head for some retail therapy, to see beautiful old architecture, or to enjoy a meal. Jardin Public
If you are already spending time near the Cathedral, you should head over to this beautiful public park. You can walk to the park if you have an hour to spare, but it is smarter to hop on the train for 18 minutes to get there. This trip will cost you 1.80 euros.
Musée du Vin et du Négoce de Bordeaux
Bordeaux is known for its wines, and this wine museum is a great choice if you want to make sure to get to try lots of different vintages while learning about the wine history of the region. The helpful and friendly staff will be happy to tell you as much or as little about the wines here as you desire to know. You will definitely want to pay for a tasting here as well. This is one of the most unique museum locations in the city and it's about a 25-minute train ride to get here from Bordeaux Saint Jean station.
