About the airport

Busan is South Korea's second biggest city after the capital, Seoul, and it is the home of the country's biggest port - one of the biggest in the world. Therefore, you'd expect Busan to have a significant airport, too. And you'd be right.

Gimhae International Airport has been serving the city and southeastern Korea since it opened in 1976, with a new international terminal opened in 2007 to keep up with passenger demand. Currently, around 17 million passengers travel through this airport every year, on their way to destinations across Korea and throughout this part of Asia.

The domestic terminal and international terminal of Busan Airport look much like any other airport you might encounter in the world, but it's interesting to note that because this airport is also used for military purposes, photography is prohibited in many areas of the facility.

Gimhae Airport faces an uncertain future. The recent airport expansions have not been enough to keep up with demand, and the mountainous terrain makes further expansion impossible, so a new airport is planned to serve the city. Still, until it's completed, this airport terminal remains the gateway to Busan and to Korea for millions of passengers every year.

Can you leave your luggage at Busan Airport?

Luggage lockers are available in both international terminal 2F and domestic terminal 2F of the airport. These storage lockers are operated by a touchscreen that can be used in English among other languages. Note that the luggage storage facilities, along with the rest of the airport, are closed overnight, so you won't have 24-hour access to your bags.

Are there lockers at Busan Station?

You can find luggage storage lockers on the ground floor of Busan Station, at both the north and south ends of the high-speed KTX train terminal. However, these lockers often fill up during busy times, so if you're looking for a place to store luggage, consider using Bounce's luggage storage service, which can provide the best luggage storage Busan has to offer.

Can I store my luggage at Seoul Airport?

You can find a luggage storage service in the main passenger terminal of Incheon Airport. This can be a good option to store your luggage if you want to leave the heavy bags behind and quickly head into the city center. However, you can save money on storage charges by taking advantage of Bounce's multiple locations in Seoul and around the world.

How long can I store my luggage near Busan Airport?

By partnering with local businesses and offering a streamlined luggage storage booking process through our app and website, Bounce makes luggage storage easier than ever. You can take advantage of our Busan Airport luggage storage for a few hours, an entire day, or for days at a time, making Bounce the most convenient option for luggage storage near Busan Gimhae Airport and beyond.

How to get to Busan from Gimhae Airport

Train

Busan Gimhae Airport is well-connected to the city it serves by light rail and metro. Although you'll have to transfer a couple of times, the train offers one of the most convenient and cheapest ways to get from the terminal to the city via public transportation.

Route: Take the train directly from the airport to Sasang Station. From there, subway Line 2 can bring you to Seomyeon Station, and from there you can switch to Line 1 to bring you to Busan Station in the heart of the city. Depending on how quickly you make your connections, the whole journey will take around 40 minutes.

Fare: You'll pay around 3 to 5 dollars for your subway tickets

Bus

If the subway doesn't work out for you, another option to get to the city or the beautiful beaches of the area is by taking a bus. This also provides a very affordable way to reach the city and offers different stops that may be more convenient, depending on the location you're trying to reach.

Route: Take the bus marked for Seomyeon/Busan Station from platform three, floor 1, of either the domestic or international terminals. The stops are: International Terminal - Domestic Terminal - Seomyeon Lotte Hotel - Seomyeon Ilbeonga - Hyundai Department Store - Busanjin Station - Busan Station - Toyoko Inn Hotel - Jungang-dong - Coastal Passenger Terminal - Nampo-dong - Chungmu-dong.

Fare: 8500 KRW (around $6 USD at the time of writing)

Taxi

Generally, a taxi will be the quickest way to get into the heart of the city, though it will also be far more expensive than taking public transportation. Some taxi companies allow you to book online.

Fare: The airport provides cost estimates for several popular locations in the city. So a taxi to Seomyeon will take around 45 minutes and cost about 18,000 KRW, while a taxi to Nampo-dong will take around an hour and cost about 20,000 KRW. Be aware that these are only estimates, so if you get caught in traffic, your taxi ride may become much more expensive. Still, if you're in a hurry to enjoy Busan and aren't too concerned about cost, this can be a great way to go.

Things to do near Busan Airport

Samnak Ecological Park

Sometimes, all you want to do is escape the chaos of the airport and the city and recharge your batteries amid nature. Luckily, Busan Airport has an ideal place to do just that. Samnak Ecological Park lies just across the river from the airport, and it makes a great place to get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the scenery even if you only have a short connection between flights.

This popular waterside park offers walking trails, sports facilities, and a carefully managed habitat for dozens of species of birds that call the park home. There are expansive views of the surrounding mountains to enjoy, and the park is especially spectacular in the spring when many of the different species of trees are blossoming.

You can reach the park from the airport in around 20 minutes by taking train 70901 from the airport to Gwaebeop Renecite station, which is just outside the park. Not many airports offer this kind of access to the natural world located so close to the terminal, so leave your baggage behind with Bounce and enjoy the beautiful nature of South Korea.

40-step Culture & Tourism Theme Street

One of the main tourist attractions in Busan, this unusual street makes a fascinating place to explore once you reach the city. The photogenic street features a staircase decorated with sculptures and public artworks that celebrate Korean history and culture.

During the Korean War, the staircase became a landmark where people would come in hopes of meeting friends and loved ones they had become separated from. That makes it a very poignant place to visit given its history, but these days, the street is also a lively place to hang out and immerse yourself in local life. Surrounded by shops, cafés, and restaurants, this is an ideal place to begin your exploration of Busan.

The best way to get here is to take the train or the bus from the airport to Busan Station. From there, the staircase is a short walk away, and that will allow you to soak up the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Busan along the way.

BIFF Square

Busan's answer to Times Square and the Hollywood Walk of Fame all in one, Biff Square is so much more than just a copy of other famous destinations. Yes, the handprints of famous Korean movie stars and musicians may make you think of Los Angeles, while the bright lights and tall buildings inevitably recall New York. But this is also one of the best destinations in Busan for street food. And since one of the best things about any trip to Korea is all the delicious things there are to eat, this is a destination no foodie should miss.

Street food vendors line up their carts along both sides of the square, so you can go from one cart to another and try something new and delicious at each one. Bring your appetite to this bustling square and sample some of the best street food Busan has to offer.
