The bus
Route: There are a couple of routes that will get you from the airport to Gold Coast. You can get on Bus 777 to Broadbeach South tram station, where you will get on the G:Link bus. Route 760 goes to Gold Coast Airport to Varsity Lakes Train Station and leaves every half hour.
Stops: These bus lines offer direct service to these different transportation hubs. There are minimal stops along these routes.
Fare: You will need to buy a Go Card and select the route that you want to travel. The charges will be applied to your account automatically, and then you can use your Go Card to get on the correct bus lines. The Go Card is a big help as you travel around this part of Australia and is well worth getting.
Shuttle
Route: Various companies offer shuttle services around the city. You can use these services to head to theme parks as well as the downtown area.
Stops: Since these services typically take you directly to your location, you should not have to deal with any stops along the way.
Fare: The fares for these services vary quite a bit between companies. Some are as cheap as $10, while others might be as spendy as $80.
Things to do near Gold Coast Airport
Coolangatta
If you have been longing for the beach, you need to head to this little beach community about two minutes from the airport. This is a charming beach town, complete with sandy bathing areas, beachside bars, and local shops to enjoy. This is one of the most popular destinations for those who are flying into the Gold Coast Airport for a whole host of reasons. If you don't have a car or don't want to take a rideshare to this location, the line 760 bus will get you here in about a half hour.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
This heritage-listed zoological garden is about six minutes away from the airport by car. There are all kinds of animals living here that you can interact with and learn about during your visit. This is also a conservation location with a complete wildlife hospital. Learning about how to take care of the environment and protect endangered species is another part of the adventure here. Make sure to plan your visit around the hours of the day when you can feed the Rainbow Lorikeets. There are few other places in the world where this is something that you can experience.
Gold Coast Motor Museum
This new museum offers access to a lot of cool cars and motoring history, as well as a restaurant. The collection includes cars and motorcycles ranging from 1911 through the ages until 1988. You can get here in an hour if you are in a car. There is no bus route to get to this motor museum, unfortunately. Car lovers will have a blast here, and there are lots of exhibits dedicated to era history if you're not too into the actual vehicles.
Gold Coast Historical Museum
This museum is a bit off the beaten track but worth checking out. The location is part of the former Vievers Sugar Cane Plantation. Most of the historical displays here are entirely photographic, but the pictures tell the story of the growth of this region of Australia in great detail. The social and economic changes to the region are explored, and there are lots of pictures of the town as it grew and got access to more and more amenities. The gardens are also quite nice and are worth checking out while you are touring the grounds. The museum staff are passionate about their work and know about nearly anything that you can think of to ask them.
