About Universal Studios Japan

For decades, Universal Pictures has produced some of Hollywood’s most dazzling films; from the Wolf Man (1941) to Back to the Future (1985), Universal Pictures has greatly impacted and even molded, the film industry. Back in the day, many of those films were shot on handcrafted sets and sound stages. When the Golden Age of Hollywood came to an end in the 1960s, so to did the prevalence of sets and studio lots. Many of the other film studios either sold or outright demolished their old studios. Rather than follow suit, Universal Pictures allowed visitors to tour their studio lots much more frequently. Near the mid-1960s, Universal Pictures began adding rides, attractions, and live performances to their lot. By July 15, 1964, the first Universal Studios theme park opened in Hollywood, California. The rest, as they say in show business, is history.

Universal Studios Japan is a part of that history; this theme park first opened to the public on March 31, 2001. Universal Studios Japan is located in the city of Osaka. While this park has a number of similarities to its Hollywood-based predecessor, it also has a slew of unique rides and experiences. Several of USJ’s attractions have won awards over the years. Attractions like Animation Celebration, the Hollywood Dreams Parade, and Peter Pan’s Neverland have all won the THEA award. In short, guests will be in for a one of a kind experience at Universal Studios Japan.

Things to do at Universal Studios Japan

No two Universal Studios theme parks are exactly alike. One could visit all of the parks around the globe and experience something new at each locale. USJ is currently divided into 10 areas based on a well-known city, film, or TV series. Like Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan has a Wizarding World of Harry Potter district. However, USJ’s version of this area has features that its Hollywood counterpart doesn’t. USJ is also slated to gain an eleventh district in the near future; by 2021, USJ is looking to open the Super Nintendo World to the public. Nintendo is based in Japan, so we’re excited to see what kinds of amazing attractions USJ’s new district will feature. While visiting Universal Studios Japan, Bounce highly recommends checking out the following.

  • Pose for a few pictures at USJ’s iconic entrance
  • Snatch up some snacks and souvenirs at USJ’s in-park shops
  • Stop by USJ’s San Francisco district
  • Hold onto your bum on the Hollywood Dream ride
  • Get a good scare at the Amity Village area
  • Take the whole family over to the Sesame Street Fun Zone
  • Make a splash at USJ’s WaterWorld area
  • Get yourself sorted out in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
  • Do whatever a spider can on the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride
  • Travel back in time in the Jurassic Park district

Transit Options in Universal Studios Japan

Luggage Storage Near Universal Studios Japan

Osaka has a population size of about 2.7 million citizens. Additionally, Osaka also receives about 11.11 million visitors each year. As one might expect, many of those guests come to visit Universal Studios Japan. As with any theme park, Universal Studios Japan has several on-site luggage storage areas. Unlike other theme parks, USJ receives about 14.9 million visitors per year. When USJ reaches peak capacity, it’s borderline impossible to find places to store your luggage at the park. That’s why visitors should use Bounce to store their luggage long before they visit the park.

Luggage Storage Near Jurassic Park

Stephen Spielberg and his creative team made history when they unleashed Jurassic Park in 1993. Viewers were blown away by the film’s amazing visual effects, gripping story, and groundbreaking depiction of dinosaurs. USJ’s Jurassic Park area allows visitors to experience those same sensations in person. The area is filled with lifelike replicas of dinosaurs and props from the film. Guests can also stop by the two photo booths to commemorate their trip - after they’ve hopped on the iconic Jurassic Park ride of course.

Luggage Storage Near Universal Wonderland

Universal Wonderland is the most kid-friendly area of the park. In the western section of this district, we have the Sesame Street Fun Zone. Here, children can play games and take photos with their favorite Sesame Street characters. Head east, and you’ll find the Hello Kitty section. Hello Kitty was created by Japanese designer Yuko Shimizu in 1974. Since then, Hello Kitty has become an international phenomenon. Last but not least, the Peanuts section of Universal Wonderland is located up north. Characters like Charlie Brown and Snoopy call this section home. Bounce away your baggage, then check out this family-friendly area.

Luggage Storage Near Wizarding World of Harry Potter

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books set the world ablaze from 1997 to 2007. These books were so popular that Warner Bros. teamed up with 1429 Pictures and Heyday Films to create a series of films based on them. We think you know the rest of that story, so we’ll get down to the nitty-gritty. USJ’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter is just as amazing as its sister locations. However, USJ’s version of this area also has a slew of differences like the Great Lake and Ollivander's wand shop. USJ’s Wizarding World does have timed tickets, however, so guests will need to make the most of their trip. We think guests should Bounce their things away so that they can travel light.
