About the airport

Puerto Princesa International Airport is one of the main gateways to the beautiful island of Palawan in the Philippines. One of the biggest islands in the country, Palawan is known for its welcoming atmosphere and its unrivaled natural wonders. This is a place where the natural world is never far away, whether you want to swim with long-nosed dolphins and sea turtles or take a boat trip through an underground river.

Interestingly, Puerto Princesa Airport was built by American POWs in Japanese captivity during the Second World War. Originally, the airport was intended to provide support for Japanese military aircraft, and in 1944, the airport was the scene of a brutal massacre of POWs by Japanese forces.

These days, however, Puerto Princesa Airport is a much happier place.

It's not hard to see why people would want to visit a beautiful place like Palawan, and the airport has been expanded to meet demand, with a new terminal opened in 2017. Located just a couple of kilometers from the city of Puerto Princesa in the district of Barangay San Miguel, this airport is the perfect gateway to what feels, most of the time, like an unspoiled tropical paradise.

Can you leave your bags somewhere in the airport?

The relatively new terminal at the airport is certainly striking and has many of the services you need, including airport lounges, car rental agencies, and restaurants. However, it doesn't have a place where you can store luggage.

But don't worry. Bounce partners with local shops, nearby hotels, and other businesses to provide you with convenient luggage storage wherever you are.

Can I leave my luggage at the airport in the Philippines?

Puerto Princesa doesn't have luggage storage facilities, but if you're flying here from elsewhere in the Philippines, you may be able to leave your bags behind before taking your flight. For example, Manila Airport has baggage storage facilities in terminals 1, 2, and 3, making it convenient for both international and domestic flights.

How to get to Puerto Princesa from Puerto Princesa Airport

Bus

The new airport terminal may be state-of-the-art, but the public transportation options between the airport and the city are still somewhat limited. Even though the airport is located only a couple of kilometers from the city, there is no mass rapid public transit like a train or subway system. That means you'll have to get there by road.

The closest you'll get to an airport shuttle is to book an airport transfer with a private company. The cost for these can vary a lot, but since the city is so close, you shouldn't pay more than around $20. Many of the hotels in the city also offer their own airport shuttle that can bring you directly to wherever you're staying for the night.

Taxis

The only alternative to a bus is to take a taxi or Jeepney from the airport to the city. Luckily, you'll have plenty of options. There are always drivers outside the airport willing to take you into the city, but it's a good idea to negotiate the price first. Ridesharing apps are also available in the Philippines and can provide a good way to get to the city and know exactly how much you're going to pay.

Walk

It's not often that you get to walk from an airport directly to the city it serves, but Puerto Princesa is close enough that you can walk between the airport and the city in around half an hour. Of course, it'll be a lot easier to do that if you aren't carrying heavy bags, so make sure to leave them behind before you set out on foot.

Puerto Princesa Underground River

The Puerto Princesa Underground River is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. This extraordinary natural phenomenon stretches over eight kilometers, navigating through a stunning limestone karst landscape before it empties into the South China Sea. Tourists can explore a portion of the river by boat, marveling at its clear waters and the diverse ecosystem within, including bats, swiftlets, and more. This underground river represents a significant geological and biodiversity conservation area, offering visitors a unique glimpse into an ancient and untouched world.

Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center

The Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, also known as the Crocodile Farm, serves a dual purpose of being both a research institute and a tourist attraction in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Make the trip here and you can learn about the conservation efforts for these magnificent creatures and see various stages of their life cycle, from eggs and hatchlings to full-grown adults. It plays a crucial role in the local community, hosting regular masses and religious events, making it a focal point of cultural and spiritual activities in the area.

Nagtabon Beach

Nagtabon Beach, nestled on the west coast of Palawan, is a hidden gem offering a serene escape from Puerto Princesa's bustle. Its pristine, golden sands stretch under the shade of lush palm trees, with crystal-clear waters inviting for swimming and surfing.

The beach's expansive shoreline makes it ideal for sunbathing and picnics, while its sunset views are truly breathtaking. Accessible by a scenic drive through rural landscapes, Nagtabon Beach is a must-visit for those seeking tranquility and a touch of adventure. Plus, is it really a trip to the Philippines if you don't hit the beach?

Luggage storage near Puerto Princesa Airport

The city of Puerto Princesa has plenty of cultural charm, but let's face it: the reason most people make the trip to Palawan is to explore its incredible natural sites, including the world-famous underground river.

Fortunately, the relatively small size of the island makes that easy. Although public transportation infrastructure here isn't as developed as you might find in more urban locations, it's not hard to book a tour or a Jeepney that will take you around the island and help you explore everything it has to offer.

But of course, it's always easier to enjoy natural splendor when you aren't weighed down by heavy bags.

Leave your suitcases and belongings behind with Bounce. Our luggage storage service makes it easy to enjoy everything this gorgeous island has to offer while knowing your belongings will be safely looked after.
