About Sorrento Train Station

The city of Sorrento sits on a peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea just to the south of Naples. Although this coastal city with its views of the volcanic mountains is beautiful in its own right, it probably wouldn't attract nearly the attention that it does if it wasn't for the fact that it serves as the gateway to the legendary Amalfi Coast.

Sorrento Train Station provides an important link to the big city of Naples and allows millions of tourists to explore this stunning region every year. The beautiful fishing villages of the Amalfi Coast don't have train stations of their own, so Sorrento is about as close as the train will take you, which means this train station gets millions of visitors every year.

Sorrento Train Station might not be anybody's idea of a fun vacation destination by itself. But given what it grants access to, this is a place you don't want to miss.

Can you leave bags at Sorrento Train Station?

Unfortunately, there are no luggage storage facilities at Sorrento Train Station itself. Still, you can find a convenient luggage storage option at the tourist office, which is just outside the main entrance to the station. They can store your bags here while you explore but be warned that the limited space here often gets filled during busy times.

Can train stations hold luggage?

Due to security concerns, Italian train stations do not have self-service luggage lockers like you might find in other places. However, that doesn't mean they don't store luggage at all. Many of the larger train stations in Italy contract with private companies to provide luggage storage either inside the train station itself or close by.

Can you store your luggage at the Naples Train Station?

Naples Train Station is the biggest in southern Italy, and it does have an option for luggage storage. You'll find a deposito bagagli, as they are called in Italian, close to the train station platforms where you can leave heavy luggage behind. However, if you can't find space here, Bounce partners with businesses like local shops, restaurants, and hotels to offer luggage storage in Sorrento, Naples, and anywhere else you may go. Leave your bags for a few hours, an entire day, or even longer, and enjoy Sorrento, Naples, and all the other great places to visit in this region of Italy.

Where do I put my luggage on Trenitalia?

Trenitalia doesn't offer designated luggage storage for each passenger. Instead, you need to put your bags either on the overhead rack above the seats or on the larger luggage racks you'll find at the end of each carriage. Some trains also have room to slide large cases in between two rows of seats. Of course, when the trains are busy, it can be difficult to find a place for your bags. That's why Bounce provides Sorrento luggage storage, just as we do in other cities around the world, to make travel easier wherever you go.

Things to do near Sorrento Train Station

Vallone dei Mulini

Not far from the train station itself, you can find this hiking trail that provides a uniquely atmospheric place to explore on the outskirts of the city.

This valley is home to several abandoned mills, and the crumbling stone buildings are perfect for photographers who want to capture something other than the usual shots of the seaside. The river valley is also striking for its greenery, which contrasts with the usually dry climate of the region. That makes it a good place to explore in summer when the trees will give you shade from the hot sun of Italy.

Sorrento Experience Museum

Although all the travelers to Amalfi bring a real boost to the economy of Sorrento, in some ways, the town suffers a little bit from people just passing through. For many travelers, Sorrento is just a means to an end, a place to get out of as quickly as possible to explore the more famous towns further south.

However, if you want to learn a little bit more about the rich history of Sorrento while you're there, this is the place to do it. The Sorrento Experience Museum is a labor of love by its owner, who has re-created his town in miniature scale and created a multimedia experience that will take you through different periods of the town's history. It's fascinating to hear about the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius, for example, or the pirate raids that once took place along this coastline.

Sorrento Experience Museum bag policy

In a small museum like this, you probably won't be surprised to hear that the options for luggage storage are very limited. The best option is to find some other luggage storage solution before you visit. Bounce offers locations near the museum, Sorrento's main square, and other areas throughout the city, so you can book online, drop off your bags, and enjoy the beautiful sights here.

Chiostro di San Francesco

Dating back to the 14th century, this former monastery is the ideal place to get some peace and quiet away from the sometimes crowded streets of the city. The beautiful cloister, full of plants and greenery, is an oasis of calm in the heart of Sorrento. Plus, the monastery is often used for art exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events, so if you have time to attend one, don't miss this opportunity to soak up the culture in one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.

Airport travel from Sorrento Train Station

Naples Airport to Sorrento Train Station

Naples Airport is the main gateway for air passengers looking to travel to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Unfortunately, as it stands right now, the airport doesn't have a mass rapid transit connection to the city it serves, so you'll need to rely on the shuttle bus.

The shuttle bus will bring you to Napoli Centrale, the city's main train station, and from there, it's easy to hop on a train to Sorrento. This journey will take a little over an hour and cost around seven euros.

It's also possible to reach Sorrento Train Station from Naples via bus. Several bus companies offer trips from Naples to Sorrento, with the journey taking around half an hour and costing about four euros.

Getting around Sorrento from Sorrento Train Station

Bagni Regina Giovanna

Just outside the city itself and close to the Sorrento Cape that juts out into the sea, you'll find this incredible location that combines ancient history with beautiful scenery to offer a glimpse of everything that makes this region so special.

A ruined Roman villa sits on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean, making a wonderful place to explore and take in the views of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, and the island of Capri. There is also a secluded beach in a rocky cove that makes for an absolutely incredible place to swim.

Bus number 8 runs from Sorrento Train Station to the Sorrento Capo stop, and from there, it's a short walk to the ruined villa and the beautiful beach. It only takes 20 minutes to get here, so it's well worth checking out while you're in Sorrento.

Positano and the Amalfi Coast

Frankly, it would be weird to talk about Sorrento and not mention the Amalfi Coast. After all, this is the main reason millions of travelers come here every year.

The Amalfi Coast consists of several beautiful and historic fishing villages located between the mountains and the sea. Every village has its own unique charm, and if you have the time, it's worth visiting all of them. However, Positano is one of the closest to Sorrento and one of the most popular Amalfi villages.

A bus from Sorrento Train Station to Positano will take around 50 minutes and costs about seven euros. Try to get a seat on the right-hand side of the bus, as this will give you the best view from the cliffside road over the sea below.

On the other hand, if you really want to enjoy the journey, consider taking the ferry. It takes 30 minutes from Sorrento Port to Positano, and along the way, you'll get incredible views of the other villages of the coast. It can cost up to €24 for the boat trip, but if you have the budget for it, it's definitely worth thinking about.
