Although the guns are now silent, in 1836, Lt. Colonel William Foster and his troops were at Fort Foster defending the land with a howitzer, 40,000 rounds of bullets and rifle powder, and 50,000 buckshot and ball cartridges. Located in Thonotosassa, Florida, about 25 minutes from Tampa, Fort Foster is in Hillsborough River State Park, where there are more than enough activities to keep anyone busy for a day or even a week.
Take a hike on one of the four hiking trails that add up to over seven miles of exploration.
