About Phaya Thai

Phaya Thai is a neighborhood in Bangkok known for shopping on the cheap and the enjoyment of eating authentic Thailandese food. If you are looking for colorful clothing and spicy food, this is the place to be. You can also shop for more high-end items, check out a beautiful museum, or stay in a fancy hotel.

If you are looking for transit to see some other areas of the country, Phaya Thai Station, which is also known as the Bangkok Airport Rail Link, is located here. It is a rapid transit station on the Sukhumvit Line and Airport Rail Link in the Ratchathewi district of Bangkok in Thailand. Surrounded by condominiums, offices, and government buildings, Phaya Thai Station is also connected to the Metro Rapid Transit (MRT) subway station, making it easy to get anywhere in the Bangkok area and beyond.

Although the Phaya Thai Station is just a rapid transit station with no shops or eateries, you can find plenty of places to go outside the station. If you want to shop, there are six malls within a short walk of the station with dozens of retail shops. Any of the six major restaurants or over 20 small eateries within walking distance would be a fantastic place to stop and have a bite to eat.

Just to the east of the station, the Traditional Thai Antiques Museum and Gallery, Suan Pakkad Palace, is a great place to visit while you are so close. It was the home of the Prince Paribatra family until they converted it into a museum in 1952. There are four Thai houses with covered halls displaying antiques such as 4,000-year-old pottery from the Ban Chiang archaeology site in the Nong Han District.

Fun Fact: There is a museum inside a huge statue of a three-headed elephant in the Samut Prakan Province called the Erawan Museum.

Luggage Storage Near Lhong 1919

On Chiang Mai Road, get some retail therapy at Lhong 1919. On the banks of the Chao Phraya River, this 19th-century mansion has plenty of shopping options, from brand names to small local shops. The Mazu Chinese shrine dates back to the 17th century of King Rama IV. You can get some upscale men’s leather goods at Zettino or stunningly designed plants at Hummingbird before having a bite to eat at one of the eateries like Karmakamet’s or Ploenwan Panich’s. Make sure you stop in at Emma Café for delicious cheesecake and coffee from a secret ancient recipe. The craft shops there have some unique souvenirs you cannot get anyplace else. Don’t miss the Thai-Chinese history center during your visit. And make sure you drop off your luggage at one of our Bounce locations on your way there.

Luggage Storage Near Art in Paradise

If you like taking selfies, head to the Art in Paradise on Ratchadaphisek Road about four miles from Phaya Thai Station on the fourth floor of the Esplanade Mall. This is a unique type of art museum where you can literally immerse yourself in the art for some excellent photo ops. The museum has a bunch of large rooms filled with 3D paintings where you can actually look like you are in the picture. The floors have arrows marked for the best spot to stand. Stick your head in the mouth of Jaws or take a ride on a flying carpet. You can even pose with King Tut or get some shots of you surfing the waves. Even if you don’t want to be in the shots, the art is incredible in how lifelike it is. Don’t bring along your bags, though. Stop by one of our Bounce partners to drop them off first.

Luggage Storage Near the Museum of Contemporary Art

If you want to see some more contemporary art while you are in Bangkok, you can find plenty of it at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Kamphaeng Phet Road about nine miles from the station. The five-story building stands out with its amazing architecture, stunning landscaping, sculptures, huge fountains, and statuary before you even go in. There are more than 800 pieces of art inside, most owned by the founder of the museum, Boonchai Bencharongkul. Some of the interesting themes include corruption, religion, and even prostitution, as Boonchai wanted to express the loss of traditional values in Thailand and the rest of the world. The fifth floor is dedicated to European artists from the Victorian era. You can also get some souvenirs at the gift shop and have something to eat at the coffee shop on the ground floor. Make sure you get your camera out of your suitcase before leaving it with one of our Bounce affiliates.
