About Playa Blanca 

Playa Blanca means white beach in Spanish, which makes sense since the sand is a sparkling white color and makes a stunning contrast to the turquoise blue waters. The community of Playa Blanca is a small five-block town between San Jose and San Miguel Streets. You’ll find over a dozen restaurants and eateries along the beach with more tucked into the city across Lopez Portillo Street. Being such a little-known spot in Cancun, you will have this beach mostly to yourself. The rest of the tourists typically head for the big busy beaches like Caracol, Chac Mool, Delfines, and Coco’s Beach Club. 

Within a mile of Playa Blanca, you will find over two dozen eateries such as Bajo del Mar seafood, The Four Dish Joint, Grill 733, and Dolce mente Express Italian Café. More than half of the restaurants are seafood places featuring freshly caught fish right from the ocean. If you are looking for a good place to get some souvenirs or anything else you need, there are several malls here. Browse Plaza Las Americas on Tulum Sur Avenue, the Plaza Galerias, and Shops Cancun on Tulum Mza Avenue, as well as many small shops, huts, and markets along the way. 

Fun Fact: The white sands of Playa Blanca’s beaches will not burn your feet because it is made from ground coral, which feels cool no matter how hot the weather gets. 

Things to do at Playa Blanca

Don’t miss the Mayan Village where you journey through the past, learning how Mayans lived.
