About Alex Box Stadium

LSU Tigers baseball fans know Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field well. Host to some of the loyalist fans in collegiate sports, Alex Box Stadium sees thousands of people walk through the gates each season. Aside from being home to the LSU Tigers, special events and concerts have also been held at Alex Box Stadium. Alex Box Stadium has a spectator capacity of over 100,000 and is one of the largest stadiums in the United States.

The Box, as it is affectionately known around the LSU campus, was originally built in the 1930s, but the new Alex Box Stadium was opened in 2009. The new state-of-the-art stadium provides comfort, excitement, and posh amenities for fans, players, and coaches. In May 2013, the field at Alex Box Stadium was named Skip Bertman Field. Stanley “Skip” Bertman led the LSU Tigers to seven Southeastern Conference Championships and five College World Series Championships.

While the stadium itself may not seem like a tourist hotspot, it should be on your must-see list when visiting Baton Rouge. The history and championships won on the Skip Bertman Field at Alex Box Stadium are some of the most magical in collegiate sports history. You can take a tour of the stadium, run the bases, sit in the dugouts, check out the posh suites, and shop for LSU apparel and souvenirs while you are at the stadium. Grab a snack or a full meal during game day at one of the concession stands or in the lounge. The stadium was named in 1943 after Alex Box, one of the LSU Tigers outfielders in 1942. In 1943, Box was killed in action in North Africa during the Second World War.
