About Port of New Orleans
The Port of New Orleans, also known simply as Port NOLA, is a major embarkation port for passengers of cruise ships as well as an international container port (the only one of its kind in the state of Louisiana). Located between Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River, not too far from the Gulf Mexico, it is one of the world’s largest and busiest ports and has a bustling maritime community. With its strategic location, trade and transportation thrived in the area during its early years. As commerce here grew, the port grew along with it and became a major economic engine for New Orleans.
