Boasting 27 miles of fine sand along the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico is Panama City Beach, a resort town in the state of Florida. The city definitely lives up to its slogan – “The World’s Most Beautiful Beaches” – with its pristine white-sand beaches that are world-famous. While the city is widely considered as the ideal summer destination, there are plenty of other attractions in Panama City Beach that are worth checking out all year round, including museums, shopping districts, restaurants and other outdoor areas. To make things easier for you, Bounce has compiled a list of top things to do when in Panama City Beach.

Museums

  • Museum of Man in the Sea: Located in the Panama City Beach Parkway is the Museum of Man in the Sea, one of the city’s most popular attractions. Regardless if you are a history buff, an avid scuba diver or simply curious about diving, this facility will teach you all about the history of diving. On display are ancient equipment, suits and submarines that were once developed for divers. (Bag-check policy: Visitors are not allowed to bring their big backpacks or bags inside the museum’s premises. Your best bet would be to Bounce in the Parkway area to store your luggage.)

  • Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Odditorium: Nestled at Front Beach Rd, the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Odditorium is one of its kind; it features an impressive collection of eclectic and weird relics and finds that truly make you wonder if they are real or not. Going through the museum and its extraordinary galleries and exhibits will surely leave you in awe. (Bag-check policy: Big bags are prohibited inside the Odditorium but visitors can temporarily store their luggage in one of Bounce’s partners in the Front Beach Rd area.)

  • Panama City Publishing Museum: Once a business building owned by the city’s founding father, George Mortimer West, the Panama City Publishing Museum is a must-see. Located in St. Andrews, the museum houses several historical items and artifacts, such as original furnishings and vintage printing presses. The facility also doubles as an information center for visitors. (Bag-check policy: Visitors are not allowed to bring big luggage items inside the building. However, there are Bounce partners in the St. Andrews area to use for short-term storage of items.)

Shopping

If you want to take a break from spending time at the beach, the next best thing that you can do in Panama City Beach is to shop ‘til you drop! There are plenty of shopping areas to discover in town – ranging from well-known retail stores to specialty boutiques and so much more.

  • Clothing: Pier Park is Panama City Beach’s premier destination for all your clothing and wardrobe needs. The shopping complex is home to major department stores such as JC Penney, Dillard’s and Target. You will also find other established clothing retailers like American Eagle Outfitters, Hollister and Old Navy, to name a few.

  • Antiques and boutiques: If you want to ditch the big brands and go for a more authentic and intimate shopping experience, the best thing to do is spend a day in the iconic Décor by the Shore shopping district. Acquire your “passport” from the Visitor Center and other participating stores and embark on a unique shopping experience as you go through several flea markets, thrift stores, vintage shops and other locally-owned specialty boutiques. Each stop gets you a “stamp” on your passport, which you can exchange for a souvenir!

  • Beach buys: Since Panama City Beach is popular among ocean lovers, it only makes sense to have beach-themed shops all over the city. If you’re looking to buy beach-related items such as swimsuits, souvenirs, water sports gears and the like, you should check out Shipwreck LTD. The store, which has two locations – one on Front Beach Rd and the other in Carillon Beach, carries different beach accessories, souvenirs and novelty items. Another popular beach shop in Panama City Beach is Mr. Surf’s Surf Shop, which offers apparel and gear as well as board rentals and tutorials.
