About Myeongdong
Myeongdong is a district located in Seoul, South Korea, which is said to have existed in some form or another since the 1300s. During that time, Myeongdong was known as Myeongryebang and was a residential neighborhood in the Joseon Dynasty. It remained that way until Japan later occupied the area and renamed it Meijicho. It was only once South Korea gained its independence in 1946 that the area was renamed once again to Myeongdong.
These days, Myeongdong has become an incredibly popular shopping district and is one of the city’s primary retail destinations.
