The Art Gallery of Western Australia was founded in 1895. The pieces and collections at this museum come from various periods, stretching from modern times back to 1829.

Royal Perth Hospital Museum: The Royal Perth Hospital Museum is a tribute to Australia’s healthcare workers. This novelty museum houses medical uniforms and pieces of hospital equipment from centuries ago. You can find this museum on 10/14 Murray St.

Whether you’re looking for high-quality clothes or if you’d like to buy some souvenirs, Perth’s shopping centers have you covered. The following three shops are some of our personal favorites:

DFO Perth: The Direct Factory Outlet is one of Perth’s largest and most popular shopping malls. This massive shopping center is located on 11 High St. You can find just about any brand that you could think of here – Calvin Klein, Guess, Hugo Boss, you name it!

Quilpie Opals Perth: Head to the Murray Hotel on 305 Murray Street, then scour the ground floor until you find this hidden gem. As its name suggests, Quilpie Opals Perth specializes in selling high-quality opals. They also specialize in embedding their opals in necklaces, earrings, and hand rings. 

Perth Cultural Centre: The Perth Cultural Centre is a community gathering place located between Francis Street and William St. Every week, the center transforms into a bazaar of sorts. Sellers from all around the city offer their wares. Overall, the center has a very homey and down to earth vibe. If you’re looking to buy one of a kind souvenirs, this your best bet.

Australia is the home of many talented, world-famous culinary artists. Celebrity chefs like Curtis Stone, Maggie Beer, and Pete Evens all hail from the Land Down Under. 

Italian Dishes: Who doesn’t love pasta? Try plenty of great restaurants in Perth that serve and even specialize in Italian dishes. One of our favorite restaurants is Lulu La Delizia – an Italian eatery in the small suburb of Subiaco. 

Asian Dishes: Whether you’re in the mood for Japanese food, Korean BBQ, or a stir-fried Chinese dish, you can find it all in Perth. Nobu gets special mention here. This stellar Japanese restaurant can be found at the Crown Metropol Perth – a luxury hotel located on Great Eastern Hwy in Burswood.

Garum: Compliments to the chef – or, in this cafe, compliments to Melbourne’s Guy Grossi. Head to 480 Hay St, and you’ll find Mr. Grossi’s critically lauded Roman ostria. 

Despite what certain sources might suggest, Australia’s wildlife isn’t out to get you. The exotic insects and one-of-a-kind mammals that call Australia home will leave you well enough alone if you return the favor. As long as you give these creatures a wide berth, you should be absolutely fine. If anything, it’s people who can often act unpredictably – especially criminals. 

Thankfully, Perth has a low rate of physical or violent crimes. In 2019 alone, only 102 homicides were reported in Western Australia out of a population of about 2.6 million people. However, property-related crimes were exponentially higher. About 23,491 cases of dwelling burglaries, 88,058 cases of theft, and 27,903 cases of property damage were reported in 2019 alone. Again, even those numbers are relatively small when compared to Western Australia’s massive population. Nevertheless, it never hurts to be extra safe during your trip. Most citizens consider Perth’s public transportation system to be the best way to travel. Specifically, the Transperth and CAT buses are some of the fastest, safest, and most reliable ways to commute.

As with most cities, Perth’s transit system is much safer during the day than during the night. For the most part, commuters can travel without worry until 7:00 pm. After that, travelers should be much warier of their surroundings. For what it’s worth, Perth’s buses and trains are monitored by CCTV cameras and at least two guards.

Scitech is a sprawling science center that’s sure to spark your curiosity. As its name implies, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts houses all sorts of creative, thought-provoking art pieces. Lastly, the Aviation Heritage Museum pays tribute to Australia’s aviators. 

“What’s the best time of year to visit Perth?”

It’s best to visit Perth later in the year, between September and November. The cost of your trip and Perth’s temperature will be much lower than usual.
