Store Your Luggage Around Adelaide With Bounce

Back in 1836, British Colonists arrived in the land that would soon become Adelaide. They named their settlement after Queen Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, the wife of King William IV. Very soon, it became apparent how fertile the land of Adelaide was. Under the leadership of Colonel William Light, the city rapidly expanded thanks to its produce, wine, and mining industries. In time, Adelaide became the capital of Southern Australia , and remains so to this day.

Even in contemporary society, Adelaide is still one of Australia’s largest centers for trade, food, and tourism. In recent years, Adelaide has also become famous for its quality of life. Across the board, regardless of their economic classes, citizens of Adelaide speak favorably about government and the overall ways they’re treated. If we had to pick one area that embodies Adelaide’s spirit, we’d have to pick North Terrace. This district is considered by many to be the cultural center of all of Adelaide.

Adelaide City Guide

Top Things to Do

Festivals, food, and football are three of Adelaide’s biggest attractions. Major events like the Sky Show Fireworks Festival and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival kick off each and every year. Many of Adelaide's restaurants are owned and operated by Michelin Chefs like Jock Zonfrillo. Lastly, Adelaide is the birthplace of Australian Rules football, and is one of the homes of the Australian Football League.

Museums

It’s no surprise that Adelaide has more sports museums than most other cities. However, people don’t call Adelaide the “City of Churches” without reason. It has cathedrals and parishes galore in Adelaide. Visitors are welcome most times of year, so long as they’re respectful. Here are some of our favorite venues in Adelaide:

  • Art Gallery of South Australia: This amazing art gallery is located on North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia 5000. Three different kinds of tours are offered here; Walking tours, Biking tours, and Cultural tours.
  • Bradman Collection: This ode to one of Adelaide’s most beloved Cricket players is located on Adelaide Oval, War Memorial Drive. Sir Donald Bradman is considered a national hero to many of Adelaide’s citizens. This testament to his achievements is certainly worth a visit.
  • St Peter's Cathedral: St. Peter’s Cathedral is just one of the many religious centers in the city. The architecture here is truly awe-inspiring, as are the vocal talents of the Cathedral Choir. You can find this historic landmark on 27 King William Rd.

Shopping

Shopaholics can rest at ease. Adelaide has plenty of shopping centers, malls, and markets. However, Adelaide also has a number of charming specialty stores – the perfect places for picking up souvenirs and mementos to commemorate your trip. The following venues are some of our favorite shopping spots:

  • Rundle Mall: This nostalgic shopping center is located on a small single lane road called Gawler Place, Adelaide. Rundle Mall has been around since 1976 and has a very quaint, old-timey feel to it. Nevertheless, you can find everything from clothes to electronics here.
  • Harbour Town Premium Outlets: This massive mall is just as famous for its food court as it is for its premium brand stores. Stop by Harbourtown 727 Tapleys Hill Rd Adelaide Airport to see what all the fuss is about.
  • The Parade Norwood: A wide variety of stores, restaurants, and pubs are located on Adelaide’s famous Parade Road. Norwood is also a very welcoming and cozy suburb with several nearby parks.

Dining

Adelaide isn’t just famous for offering great tasting food, but also the unique dining experiences that each of its popular restaurants offers. Even many of Adelaide’s more low-key eateries offer their patrons a special dining experience. We recommend checking out the following restaurants:

  • Mai Kitchen: This highly rated restaurant is your one-stop shop for Vietnamese food. It’s located on Corner Wright & Warren Streets Ferryden Park. Side note – the Vietnamese Pancakes here are out of this world.
  • Italian Food: Pasta, pizza, and pesto dishes satisfy in Adelaide. One of the most popular Italian restaurants is Georges on Waymouth. Stop by 20 Waymouth Street to try out their signature dish – pressed lamb shoulder wrapped in Prosciutto.
  • Luigi Delicatessen: Here’s a place that offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert! Luigi Delicatessen is located on 43 Franklin Street. If you visit during the morning, we highly recommend trying the Breakfast Platter.

Safety

Overall, Australia experiences much less crime than other countries with similar population sizes. Our research indicates that Adelaide is one of the safest capital cities in the world. In fact, it’s consistently ranked as such since 2013 at least. Violent crimes like homicides and burglaries are rare occurrences. In 2019 alone, less than 100 homicides were reported by Adelaide’s citizens.

Despite this, Adelaide is unfairly considered the “murder capital of the world” by some. The origin of this dreadful nickname stretches back to the 20th century. Several tragic murders occurred in the period between 1970 and 1990. Though Adelaide’s law enforcement agencies have taken great strides to make their city safe, shaking the “murder capital” moniker may yet take more time and effort. Nevertheless, Adelaide is a safe city to visit these days. Even property related crimes occur less frequently in the City of Churches than they do elsewhere.
