About the station
The Bilbao train station is known simply as Bilbao-Abando by locals. This train station has been in existence since 1863 and continues to service traffic between Bilbao and Castille. The Cercanías Bilbao commuter rail services pass through this station and the station is also a connection point for the high-speed Basque-Y line. The station has been expanded numerous times, but the beautiful stained glass wall inside the older segment of the terminal has been preserved. There is currently an urban expansion project that is being completed to improve many areas of Bilbao around the station, which will allow the Bilbao station to be connected to increased bus transit options in the future.

Things to do near Bilbao Train Station
Casco Viejo
This is the medieval old quarter of the Bilbao city center. You can easily spend a few hours having fun here and there are many local shops to visit in this part of the city. This is one of the most popular things to do near Bilbao Abando. The dramatic spire of the Santiago Cathedral will guide you toward this part of the city with ease. Guggenheim Museum
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is just 15 minutes away from the station on foot. The iconic museum has won many awards and offers contemporary and historic collections to enjoy. The outdoor sculpture collection is very impressive, and many people are drawn to the museum just to see these items alone.

This Neoclassical plaza space was built in 1821 on the site of the square of the ancient Ribera Market. This is one of the most unique things to do near Bilbao Abando, and you will not regret making time to stop in here. Airport travel from Bilbao Train Station
The A3247 bus is the most efficient and affordable way to get from Bilbao train station to the airport. This trip will take you 36 minutes and cost about $1-$2. You can also hire a taxi for about $30-$40 to take you to the airport from Bilbao's train station hub. There is no direct train station drop-off at the airport to take advantage of.

Azkuna Zentroa
Azkuna Zentroa, previously known as Alhóndiga Bilbao, is one of the most well-known buildings in the city. This building used to house the municipal wine exchange market. Today it serves as a cultural center and heritage site and is used for many purposes, such as classes and public events. The building is truly beautiful to look at, even if you cannot go inside during your visit. This lovely building is just 11 minutes away from the train station on foot. Make sure to try and see the Atrium of Cultures with its many pillars designed to represent all of the cultures and peoples of the world.
Erribera merkatua
This market is at the center of the oldest part of the city. Head here for delicious food, excellent shopping, and a unique cultural experience. The seven streets of the old quarter of the city all join here, so you can also wander around checking out the scenery before or after you enjoy the market itself. Allow 13 minutes to walk here from the train station.
Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao
If you have the time for a 16-minute walk, you can head over to this secondary, but no less impressive museum in the middle of the city. Located inside the Doña Casilda Iturrizar park, this lovely museum is a great place to head if you are passionate about art and want to see pieces in various styles and from various time periods.
