About Hvar

Hvar is a 42-mile-long island in the Adriatic Sea off the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. With 11,000 permanent residents, it’s Croatia's 4th most populated island and a top tourist destination. Tourists visit the beautiful island for many things, including the rolling hills, olive groves, lavender fields, fine wine, quaint villages, and dramatic rocky coastline.

Hvar's main town has the same name as the island and a population of around 3,500 people. Other towns include Stari Grad and Jelsa. Along with Croatia, the island has changed hands many times throughout history, with the Byzantine Empire and the Venetians having a particularly strong influence on the art and architecture of Hvar. After being incorporated into the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Hvar became part of Yugoslavia. At the end of the Second World War, Croatia became a country in its own right, with Hvar as part of it.

This history of conquest and occupation has left Hvar with a fascinating culture, architecture and cuisine that are well worth exploring. But there’s more to the island than just its history. The stunning scenery and sunny weather have made this charming town one of Croatia’s most popular destinations.

Riding ferries and catching sunsets on Hvar Island is easier done without the burden of baggage. Looking for a safe place to store your belongings while you’re out and about? We have you covered. With our multiple convenient luggage storage locations across Hvar town, you can easily store your luggage and enjoy Hvar to the fullest.
