About Ibiza Town

Ibiza is world-famous for one thing, and that’s its epic nightlife scene, with buzzy DJ sets at some of the buzziest nightclubs on the planet. But there’s plenty to unpack on the island that doesn’t involve any techno music or sweaty dance floors. Ibiza Town is the largest city on the island and offers one of the most interesting travel experiences in Spain. This historic city has a fascinating history, made easy to explore with the pleasant Mediterranean climate. Dalt Vila, the ancient fortifications that protected the harbor and city, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and easily the island’s top historical landmark. You’ll be able to explore the ramparts while enjoying the city’s many markets, tavernas, and seafood restaurants. Ibiza Town also makes it easy to explore the rest of the island.

Beaches like the Playa den Bossa, Cala d’Hort, and Playa de Talamanca are all renowned travel destinations for swimmers and partiers alike. Each beach has its own unique vibe, so Ibiza offers a variety of experiences. Some of these beaches are much more geared towards the hard-partying clubbers. Some of the beaches are situated in historic towns. Some are a little more remote, offering a quiet place for a romantic getaway or family-friendly fun.

Here’s everything you need to know about Ibiza Town:

Where can I leave my suitcase in Ibiza?

While certain attractions and transit facilities might operate luggage lockers, this is exceedingly rare in Ibiza. Your best bet will be to use a luggage storage service like Bounce, which has dozens of locations on the island. Bounce’s mobile app makes it simple to find and book luggage storage at the most convenient location to where you’re exploring. You’ll also enjoy access to premium features like 24/7 customer support from a dedicated team. Bounce vets its luggage storage facilities to ensure security and reliability, and its BounceShield Guarantee is the gold standard for ensuring quality.

Can I store luggage at a hotel if I'm not staying there?

Some hotels will provide a luggage storage service to non-guests, but this is rare. It would make sense to check with the hotel ahead of time to make sure they’ll accommodate your bags and what the fee would be. At this point, you might as well look into a luggage storage service or even luggage lockers closer to where you’ll be hanging out in Ibiza.

What are the most secure Ibiza luggage storage options?

The most secure option for luggage storage Ibiza has would be a dedicated service like Bounce. Unlike luggage lockers you’ll find at a bus station or museum, Bounce customers can use its useful mobile app to find the most convenient location and book online. There are also useful features that make it simple to book ahead of time or even on the go.

Can you store your luggage at Ibiza Airport?

Unfortunately, Ibiza Airport doesn’t operate a luggage storage facility. Being a smaller air travel hub, Ibiza offers no connecting flights. So it doesn't make much sense to provide ample amenities as travelers tend to speed their way through the airport to get to their resort.

How to get to Ibiza Town

Ferry

Many travelers arrive in Ibiza Town by boat. Island-hopping around Spain’s Balearic Archipelago is one of the coolest ways to experience the Mediterranean. Plenty of ferries and cruise lines call on Ibiza Town from Sant Antoni de Portmany, Mallorca, Formentera, Malaga, and other cities in Southern Spain. Aquabus Ferry Boats, Balearia, and Trasmediterranea are the most popular companies operating ferries between Ibiza and these destinations. A ferry trip costs between $70 and $80 depending on the journey. For day trips across the sea, you can store luggage near Ibiza Port with a service like Bounce.

Bus

You can take the bus around Ibiza Town for a cheap way to get from one end to the other, but this isn’t that common for international travelers. An average bus ride costs $5 for a one-way ticket. There is also the Disco Bus which runs at night on holidays and weekends, which is a great way to explore the popular nightlife district in Ibiza Town.

Taxi and rideshare

This is the most common way for travelers to get from their resorts to Ibiza Town, and ther average price of a ride will cost between $20 and $30 to get to the town center. It’s very convenient, many of the drivers will speak English, and you’ll get a door-to-door service. Your hotel concierge will be able to call one from a reliable company.

Walking

Ibiza is very compact and many of the top areas are mostly pedestrianized, so walking is easily one of the best options for getting around. The area around Dalt Vila is especially walkable.

Car rental

Whether this option makes sense depends entirely on what you’ll be doing and where you’ll be staying in Ibiza. If you’re planning on staying close to the resort or have a hotel in Ibiza Town, it won’t make sense. If you’re planning on day trips throughout the island or have specific plans for a remote destination, then renting a car (especially with a group) is a solid option. The roads are easy to navigate and parking is generally available outside of areas like Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town.

How to get to Ibiza Town from Ibiza Airport

The most common way to get from the airport to Ibiza Town would be the L7 and L10 buses. They depart the airport arrivals terminal every 20-30 minutes and there will be ample signage and a route map to show you where you’re heading. The ride costs about $5 for a one-way trip and takes about 40 minutes. The other option would be a 15-minute taxi ride that you can hail from the stand in the same location as the buses. It would cost about $40. Rideshare apps, especially, Uber, also operate in Ibiza Town and can be called from anywhere.

Things to do near Ibiza Town

Dalt Vila

Of any historical landmark in Ibiza, this is by far the most famous. This fortified part of Ibiza is ringed in a massive wall and set atop a hill commanding the city and harbor. If it looks impenetrable, then you know what it was like to be a Mediterranean pirate in the 16th century. Heading through Portal Nou from Plaza del Parque, you can stroll through the neighborhood within the walls to admire the medieval mansions, cathedrals, and well-preserved Renaissance architecture. If you have most of the day, check out the Contemporary Art Museum inside or simply grab an espresso and get lost for a while.

Ibiza Cathedral

Aside from Dalt Vila, the building you're most likely to see from anywhere in Ibiza Town is the massive bell tower of Ibiza Cathedral. Ibiza’s most important church was built in the 14th century and features gorgeous Catalan Gothic architecture. From its perch atop a hill, you’ll be able to see most of the waterfront when loafing around the square outside the cathedral.

City Ramparts and Portal de Ses Taules

If you don’t have time to take a deep dive into Dalt Vila, you can check out the old entrances and ramparts to catch a glimpse of the formidable fortifications at the fortified walls and ramparts. At over 80 feet high, it makes sense that Dalt Vila hasn’t been taken by force across its centuries of protecting Ibiza (Napoleon did take the city, but not by force). It was built to keep out raiders and pirates from North Africa and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and was designed with the most advanced technology at the time to withstand artillery. You can visit the ramparts and walk the mile or so length of the ramparts for some of the best views of Ibiza Town and the harbor. If you do have time to head into Dalt Vila, you can enter through the impressive Portal de Ses Taules, which features a stone bridge that connects the fortress with the main market square. The gate is flanked by two Roman-era statues and crowned with grandiose arches.

Luggage storage near Ibiza Town

Whether you’re heading to this Spanish island to party until dawn or for a family vacation at the beach, Ibiza is a fantastic option for your next trip. Not only will you get the resort experience right on the water, but you’ll also have a historic city center to unpack, plenty of outdoor adventures to get the blood pumping, and the typically exceptional Spanish food and drink to enjoy. There’s a ton to do, so making your trip stress-free with some planning is absolutely ideal. Finding a place to store the bags is certainly recommended for day trips or travel days. With luggage storage locations throughout Ibiza, you can rely on Bounce throughout the Island (and throughout Spain, for that matter) to take care of the bags.
