The Melbourne Airport, located in the City of Melbourne in Victoria, is the second busiest airport in Australia. With four terminals and 68 gates, the airport serves over 37 million people annually. Besides being a major transportation hub, the airport also offers a few places to get an adult beverage, as well as several coffee shops. You can also walk around the airport to see art pieces by local artisans. 

The Qantas Clubs on the first level of Terminal 2 offers televisions, reading material, showers, Wi-Fi, drinks, and snacks. Terminal 2 also has several lounges. The Plaza Premium Lounge on the first level has premium food and drinks, television, and reading materials. The lower level has the American Express Lounge with the same options, and the third level Qantas Airways Lounge has everything that the others have but also a spa.

Terminal 3 has two lounges for Virgin Australia passengers with a variety of amenities like showers, drinks, and food. Terminal 4 has the Rex Lounge on the second level by Gate 30. They have phones, magazines, televisions, drinks, and snacks. The airport also has more than two dozen eateries, including Hungry Jack’s, Krispy Kreme, Sushi Sushi, McDonald's, and Subway. If you are looking for souvenirs or necessities like water or a newspaper, there are about 30 retailers, from Amcal Pharmacy to the World of Chocolate. 

Fun Fact: You can go surfing without going to the beach in Melbourne. URBNSURF water park has a huge pool that generates up to 6.5-foot waves to surf on.

If you love animals, visit the Melbourne Zoo on Elliott Avenue about 15 minutes from the airport. This large park has thousands of wild animals, from aardvarks to zebras. In the Australian Bush section, see the native animals like kangaroos, wombats, and koalas. Then head over to the Lion Gorge to visit the lions, tigers, and leopards. The Trail of the Elephants has more than just elephants; they have monkeys, orangutans, and the Butterfly House. The Gorilla Rainforest has hippos and lemurs, as well as monkeys and gorillas. They even have animatronic dinosaurs at the Zoo and animal talks all day long. Relax at one of the seven eateries for a bite. Don’t forget to stop at one of the gift shops for some souvenirs.

To learn more about Melbourne and Victoria, check out the Melbourne Museum on Nicholson Street about 16 miles from the airport. It is the biggest museum in the southern hemisphere. In the Science and Life Gallery, you can see skeletons of a variety of dinosaurs, including the Diprotodon, Protoceratops, and the Tarbosaurus. This section also has exhibits like Exploring Our Seas, Dinosaur Walk, and Bugs Alive. Other exhibits include the Melbourne Gallery, the Mind and Body Gallery, Touring Hall, the Pasifika Gallery, Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Center, and the Forest Gallery. They also have the largest IMAX theater screen in the world where you can see movies and documentaries. Make sure you stop in and get some souvenirs at the gift shop before you go. Luggage Storage Near Yarra Bend Park

Visit the bushland in Yarra Bend Park for a more personal view of the flora and fauna of Melbourne. It is just a short drive from the airport on Yarra Bend Road. This is the biggest natural bushland park in Melbourne and has miles of trails to visit, as well as a boathouse and picnic areas. Explore the Dights Falls Walk to see the amazing and beautiful Dights Falls near what used to be an asylum. Rent a boat for a trip down the river, play a round of golf at their golf course, or get a selfie in front of the Ceres Flour Mill, built in the 1840s. Don’t miss the Flying Fox Walking Trail, where you are almost guaranteed to see at least one of these furry flyers.
