About Southern Cross Station

In 1859, the Spencer Street Station opened in Melbourne, Australia. This humble station was a terminus – the end point for all passengers who rode into Spencer Street. However, all of that changed in the 1960s. Plans were made to renovate Spencer Street Station, and construction quickly commenced. Before long, Spencer Street Station was transformed into Southern Cross Station.

These days, Southern Cross Station is one of the most used railway stations in Melbourne. Not only does it house dozens of passenger trains like the Overland, but it also connects to Victoria’s regional railway network. Thousands of commuters flow in and out of Southern Cross Station each and every day. If you decide to ride into Melbourne via train, chances are that you’re going to end up at Southern Cross Station.

The Melbourne Museum is one of the oldest, most prestigious, and most visited museums in the city. The earliest version of the Melbourne Museum opened in 1858 and was helmed by Prof. Frederick McCoy, a Natural History Professor at the University of Melbourne. Now, the Melbourne Museum has grown into a sprawling complex of interconnected areas. Some of our favorite sections are the Forest Gallery and the Royal Exhibition Building.

Some people like to call Australia the “Cricket Capital of the World.” In reality, Australians love all sorts of sports; football, basketball, rugby, tennis, boxing – you name it, they’ll play it. In fact, Aussies love athletics so much they created the Australian National Museum. This super-sized sports center pays homage to Australia’s greatest athletes. Incidentally, there’s also a special exhibit dedicated to the Melbourne Cricket Club.

If you’re a big sports fan, especially if you’re a Cricket fanatic, you should definitely visit the ASM. It’s located within the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Luggage Storage Near the Old Melbourne Gaol

Do you believe in ghosts, goblins, and ghouls? Well, you should visit the Old Melbourne Gaol even if you don’t. This place just exudes a creepy, unsettling atmosphere, especially in the late hours of the day. Long ago, the gaol used to be a prison that housed some of Australia’s most dangerous criminals. Now, the gaol is a museum of sorts. However, they don’t display art pieces and marble statues at the Old Melbourne Gaol. Instead, they display terrifying oddities and curios such as the alleged skull of Ned Kelly.

You can find the Old Melbourne Gaol near the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Add this scary destination to your itinerary. But first, use Bounce to store your things, lest the spirits of the deceased steal your possessions.
