About Toronto Union Station

In the middle of downtown Toronto between York and Bay, Union Station is the main transportation hub of Toronto and Hamilton. With almost 300,000 visitors per day, it is always a bustling and busy space with a lot to do and see. The station has about 706 thousand square feet of space with restaurants, retail stores, kiosks, taverns, and more. Although the station was originally built in 1858, it got a major overhaul and reopened in 1927. 

Whether you are waiting for a train, bus, or just hanging out at the station, you can find over 100 eateries and shops to enjoy as well as a fresh market in the Union Food Court. The station also has quite a few unique local stores like the Peace Collective, which donates five school meals to local children in need for every purchase. 

Near many large tourist attractions and points of interest, Toronto Union Station is the perfect starting point for exploring the city. There are several museums, about a dozen parks, and a plethora of shopping malls and stores. Whether you are looking for something to eat, something to do, or something to buy, you can find it all in and around Toronto Union Station. 

Fun Fact: The station has 22 columns decorating the entrance on Front Street made from Bedford limestone that weigh 75 tons each.

Less than 10 minutes away on Bremner Boulevard, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada is a great place to spend an hour or the whole day. The nine galleries provide a plethora of awesome exhibits. The Canadian Waters gallery has native fish and other aquatic creatures and is one of the most popular. They also have the Rainbow Reef with tropical fish, Dangerous Lagoon with sharks, the Discovery Center, the Gallery, Ray Bay with manta rays, Planet Jellies with jellyfish, the Shoreline Gallery, and a tour of the Life Support Systems of their water supply. Be sure to stop at Ripley’s Café and the Cargo Hold Gift Shop while you are there. Luggage Storage Near Tall Ship Kajama Cruises

Head over to Queens Quay West, about 10 minutes from the station, for a cruise on the Tall Ship Kajama. The Kajama is a 165-foot Schooner that sails twice daily from downtown Toronto. The two-hour cruise includes a long sail on Lake Ontario, where you can get some amazing views of Toronto. While you are on the Kajama, visit the restaurant for tacos, chicken, poutine, pulled pork, or a Cuban sandwich. Wash it all down with a soft drink or adult beverage as you enjoy the view. On Queens Park, about 12 minutes from Toronto Union Station, learn more about Ontario at the Royal Ontario Museum. There are some must-see items at the museum. For example, you cannot miss the 20-million-year-old Martian Meteorite from Africa. And the 2,000-year-old Striding Lion from the throne of King Nebuchadnezzar II. The white rhino exhibit on the second floor is a great place to get a selfie. And you can see the armor of William Herbert, who was the first Earl of Pembroke. There is even a dinosaur. The Forgotten Barosaurus is a 90-foot skeleton that was found in the basement of the museum. Found in 1931 by the first director of the museum, an ancient artifact of a female bull leaper is also on display. It is made of ivory and stone and dates back to 1600 BC.
