Citi Field Bag Policy 2024: The Ultimate Guide

Citi Field, New York

Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets, is located in Flushing Meadows in Corona Park, just 30 minutes from Times Square by subway. Built in 2009 at a cost of $850 million to replace the aging Shea Stadium, it plays host to a wide variety of events beyond baseball, from concerts to races.

One carry-over from its Shea Park days is the Home Run Apple, though this one is four times larger than its original predecessor. Every time a Mets player hits a home run, the famous apple lights up to salute the occasion. At the entrance to Citi Field itself is the Jackie Robinson Rotunda where you can visit the Mets Hall of Fame. Here recognition is given, not just to some of the big-name players, but also to famous commentators and other larger-than-life Mets dignitaries.

Whether you're visiting the Mets Citi Field for a ballgame or for a concert, one thing's always for sure: you're going to need to know what the bag policy is. No one wants to get caught out at the bag search desk. It might even be an idea to place your luggage in a storage facility near Citi Field ahead of time so that you are free to explore unencumbered. On gamedays, bag storage locations fill up very fast so book with Bounce in advance to ensure your space!

So, what's the Citi Field bag policy?

The Mets stadium bag policy has been enhanced in recent years to speed up security searches while enhancing the overall procedure. But don't worry, we've got you covered with all the details you'll need to know. Plus, we've got plenty of bag storage locations near Citi Field - book online ahead of your visit and you'll be able to breeze through Citi Field's security check with even more ease.

Can you bring a bag into Citi Field?

The short answer is yes, you can. But there are a few bag rules you'll need to follow.

  1. Bags of any size larger than 16'' by 16'' by 8'' won't make it past security, so whatever bag you choose make sure it's it fits the recommended size requirements.
  2. You also can't bring a backpack inside the stadium at all, regardless of what size it is, as multiple pouches slow down the search process. Clear backpacks are the only exception to this rule (provided they're within the size limit.) Single compartment drawstring bags that fall within the size limit are acceptable.
  3. You may carry see-through plastic bags, diaper bags, small soft-sided coolers, and specialized bags for medical equipment.
  4. Laptop bags are still allowed into the stadium, as are the laptops themselves.

If you're not sure, book your bags into a luggage storage location nearby and enjoy the game without having to worry about your things.

What about Citi Field lockers?

There are no storage lockers at Citi Field so, if you're denied entry because of your bag, it could mean spending a long time in line as you restart the entry process.

In the area are several storage facilities and placing any bags in a locker will allow you far more freedom to enjoy your outing. Book your bag into one of our nearby bag storage locations to avoid any hassle. Instead of lockers, you'll benefit from our partner location's watchful eye as well as the protection we provide with the BounceShield™ guarantee. Free yourself from having to carry luggage or needing to work out what will and what won't get past security at the park.

Can I bring a camera into Citi Field Stadium?

Under the stadium's camera policy, you are permitted to take photos or videos using regular domestic equipment. Although the Mets stadium bag policy makes no mention of cameras itself, keep the bag restrictions in mind when planning what to bring, and remember to consider other people’s viewing pleasure when making those digital memories.

Also, please be aware that tripods, monopods, and professional lighting rigs are not allowed.

Citi Field food policy

Under the New York Mets Citi Field bag policy, you can bring food into the stadium so long as it's in a soft-sided cooler. However, they do operate a food policy that you'll need to follow, too.

Drinks: Although you are not allowed to bring in glass bottles or cans, you are free to bring in one plastic water bottle of up to twenty ounces per person. These bottles should be factory sealed. You can also bring in children's juice boxes, provided they are also soft-sided. You are not, however, allowed to bring in any alcoholic beverages of any kind.

Food: Inside the ballpark is an abundance of food concession stands offering every type of food you would expect at a large sporting event. Here you can include kosher, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. So, if you can't fit enough into your cooler, don't worry - there's plenty available to you on the other side of security.

Other Citi Field rules

Alongside their bag policy, there are a number of items that are strictly prohibited from Citi Field ballpark:

  • All weapons
  • Laser pointers
  • Noise making devices
  • Sticks, brooms, or other objects with the potential to cause injury
  • Fireworks
  • Drones

Citi Field public transport

One of the beauties of this ballpark is its ease of access. In a city like New York, trying to find parking can turn into a nightmare. At Citi Field, you are spoiled for choice as far as public transport options go. The New York subway will get you there, but so will the Long Island Rail Road and on big game days, New York Water Taxis offer a free ferry crossing from Pier 11.
