Acrisure Stadium visitor guide

The home field of the 2009 Superbowl champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Acrisure Stadium is a 68,000-seat venue that’s used for more than football. In fact, the largest crowd to date at the stadium was a Taylor Swift concert, where over 73,000 fans were in attendance. Her shows in Pittsburgh in 2023 were the highest-ticketed events in the city’s history.

Acrisure Stadium was opened to the public in 1999, but it’s had two names since - Steelers Stadium and Heinz Field. Its current name was given in 2022.

Planning your visit to Acrisure Stadium is a breeze if you know what to expect. It’s also a lot easier if you head to an Acrisure Stadium luggage storage location like Bounce before you even get there. Travel light and getting to and into the stadium will be a lot more fun, especially since the stadium’s bag policy is fairly strict. Read on to find out more about it…

Acrisure Stadium bag policy

Acrisure Stadium bag policy

The Acrisure Stadium bag policy is actually more specifically a clear bag policy. The only bags permitted in the stadium are those that are clear plastic or vinyl and don’t have a logo larger than 4.5” by 3.4”. The clear bag itself also must be 12” x 6” x 12” or smaller. One-gallon freezer bags that are also clear plastic are allowed.

The only exceptions to the Acrisure Stadium clear bag policy are for medically necessary bags and items and small clutch bags that don’t exceed 4.5” x 6.5” (they don’t need to be clear). Each ticketed guest is allowed to bring in one clear bag and one clutch bag. Guests can also bring in jackets and blankets.

For your convenience, the stadium sells Steelers-themed clear bags that are policy compliant. But if you’re attending a game or a concert and you have your luggage with you, there are no lockers at Acrisure Stadium. Your best bet is to make a convenient stop at any of our Bounce locations on your way to the stadium. It’s not recommended that you leave your suitcases or backpacks in your car due to the risk of theft.

Acrisure Stadium food policy

The Acrisure Stadium food policy is slightly more lenient than its bag policy, although the two are linked. Outside food and drinks are allowed in the stadium as long as they fit into your one clear bag. As for drink containers, factory-sealed plastic ones that contain non-alcoholic beverages and are 24 ounces or less are fine. Leave the cans, coolers, flasks, and bottles behind.

If you don’t plan to pack your own food, the Acrisure Stadium food options won’t disappoint. The Doritos corn dogs are something you won’t find everywhere, and you can easily find tasty sausages, pizza, and sandwiches on all the stadium’s levels.

How to get to Acrisure Stadium

Acrisure Stadium transportation

Need to know how to get to Acrisure Stadium? We’ve got you covered. There are multiple ways, depending on your budget and preference:

Driving

It’s just a five-minute drive over the Allegheny River from downtown Pittsburgh to the venue. But on game days, the drive will take much longer than that. Even though it’s a journey of less than two miles, parking is notoriously difficult in the North Shore neighborhood, so most parking options are downtown anyway. Park there and walk the 20 minutes to Acrisure to beat some of the traffic. The stadium’s website allows you to book parking in advance online using the Shot Hero app

Public transportation

The easiest way to get to Acrisure Stadium using public transportation is on the city’s light rail system. There are two North Shore stations - Allegheny Station and North Shore Station, and both can be used to cut down on the walking time from downtown.

Rideshares

Another option for Acrisure Stadium transportation is the use of a rideshare. Companies like Uber and Lyft operate here, and there are two drop-off/pickup locations available. One is at the intersection of Reedsdale Street and Art Rooney Avenue near Gate B. The other is across from the Carnegie Science Center.

Acrisure Stadium camera policy

No video cameras are allowed, but personal (non-professional) cameras with lenses shorter than 6” are ok. If you’re planning to use your cell phone or a small point-and-shoot camera, you won’t be in violation of the Acrisure Stadium camera policy.

Acrisure Stadium rules

Here are a few additional things to note for your event:

  • There is a strict no-re-entry rule at the stadium, so don’t plan to leave once you’ve scanned your ticket.
  • The venue is completely cashless. Have your debit or credit card handy if you want to purchase merchandise or anything from the concessions. Google and Apple Pay are also widely used here. Prefer to use cash? Go to the Guest Services 104 location, and you can buy Aramark-branded vouchers to use in the stadium.
  • Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the stadium.
  • It’s against the Acrisure Stadium policies to carry a football into the venue.
  • All stadium gates open two hours before kick-off.
  • To stay aligned with the stadium’s rules, make sure you don’t arrive with a stroller, selfie stick, laser pointer, light-up clothing, seat cushions, or your laptop.

Conclusion

Attending an iconic Steelers game is pretty much guaranteed to be a good time. Acrisure Stadium has a wonderful game-day atmosphere, and due to its proximity to downtown, there’s always plenty to do in the city before or after the game.

To avoid breaking any of the Acrisure Stadium rules, drop off anything you don’t need with Bounce before you make your way there. Getting through security will be so much easier. Then you can focus on getting to your seat or getting a snack - the important things.
