How to get around Verona by train

If you are traveling to and from Verona from inside Italy, then chances are that you will arrive by train. You will find the city center of Verona at the intersection between Milan and Venice, and its central location makes it easy to get to all of the areas in the province by train from here. From this spot you will find four different tracks that can take you in different directions; heading north you will be brought straight to Brennero, southward you will go to Bologna, to the east you will find Venezia and Trieste, and finally, to the west, you can get to Milano and Torino. If you want to go to Genova you will need to head west but take another railway partway.

Verona Porta Nuova central stop

Trains come pretty frequently from the central Verona station and you can usually catch one about every hour. If you are looking for the stop closest to most of the tourist destinations and activities, like an opera concert at the Arena or a walking tour at Piazza Bra, then you should get off at the Verona Porta Nuova stop. From here, you can easily reach the city center by walking, or grab a bus or taxi if you prefer.

The trains leaving Verona are fast, reliable and comfortable, and it won't take you too long to get to other big cities from here. If you are spending a while in Verona you can consider taking a day trip to other Italian towns, like Milan or Venice which can be reached within an hour and a half, or even spend a few nights in Rome which is only five to seven hours away by train.

How to get around Verona by bus

The Verona Porta Nuova railway station and the main local bus station are located just across the street from each other, so you won't have to walk far to get on a bus after taking a train into the city. There are quite a few buses that stop here, from both international and inter-city lines. You may not know that you can actually get to Verona from different places around Europe by bus, so if you haven't made any travel arrangements yet, keep this in mind.

Bus tickets

The buses that you will probably take will be from the train station to the Piazza Bra. To use a bus you will need to buy an ATV ticket which can be purchased online, from a kiosk or ticket office, and there are several different plans available. If you are only planning to take the bus once then you can buy a single ticket, this will be valid for an hour and a half once it is activated by a machine located nearby. Day tickets are also available for a slightly higher price but are a good choice if you are going to be bussing around a lot in one day, or you can buy a package of 10 tickets that can be activated and used whenever it is convenient for you.

This public transport system in Verona can be used to reach other nearby cities, although the further ones can be reached faster by train. You can find a timetable of bus departures on the official ATV website or posted near the bus station. A shuttle bus can also take you to and from the airport to the train station.

If you want to see the city by bus your best bet is to book an appointment with one of the local tour buses. Some of them offer a hop-on, hop-off system which is perfect for anyone who wants to see the main tourist attractions or landmarks at their own pace without having to find their own way there. These activities usually have two or more routes for you to choose from, so you can make sure to reach all of the landmarks on your destination list.

To pay for your parking you can use one of the columns that you will find nearby which will give you a ticket to put on your car dashboard, or by paying online through an app on your phone.
