Deak Ferenc square is a public space in the heart of Budapest. When you visit this vibrant city, chances are good you'll find yourself here. Three of the city's Metro lines converge at this point, making it the ideal place to start your exploration of the city.
The square is named for Ferenc Deák, a 19th century politician who was influential in achieving a measure of Hungarian independence from Austrian domination. But that's not why people come to the square today. Nowadays, the square is a major traffic intersection and a popular gathering site for the city's residents. As night falls, the square comes to life with both locals and visitors. Nearby bars and restaurants are often busy, and Budapest's liberal alcohol laws mean many people take their drinks onto the square to enjoy them in the open air. It all contributes to making the square a buzzing place no matter when you visit.
As one of Budapest's most well-loved public spaces, Deak Ferenc Square is the perfect place for people watching. This is especially true at night, when the square really comes to life with both locals and tourists. But its central location and excellent transit links make the square extremely convenient for seeing more of the city. It's the perfect place to begin your exploration of Budapest.
Get a bird seye view over Budapest at the Budapest Eye. This large Ferris wheel is located right in Deak Ferenc Square, and gives you a fun way to get an overview of the city from a swaying basket high above the ground.
Dance the night away at Akvarium Klub in Deak Ferenc square. Budapest isn’t exactly short of hot nightspots. But this legendary club, right off the square, is one of the most celebrated. Hosting both local and international DJs, the club stays open until 6 AM, so you can keep partying till the sun comes up.
Take a boat tour along the Danube to see some of the city's most famous landmarks. The river splits the city into two, Buda and Pest, and a leisurely boat tour along the river will explain the history of how these settlements came to be the great city they are today. A boat tour is worth it just for the photographs you'll get of the Hungarian parliament building, one of the most beautiful in the world.
Pay homage to the King of Pop at the Michael Jackson Memorial Tree. This quirky site commemorates the singer's visit to Budapest. Since Michael Jackson's death, the tree has become a shrine to the iconic star. While you're at it, you could go on a scavenger hunt to see some of Budapest's other surprising monuments, such as statues of Shakespeare and Ronald Reagan.
Explore unique Hungarian cuisine with Taste Hungary. These tours will guide you through the delicious world of Hungarian food and wine, stopping off at spots throughout the city to sample what they have to offer. While Hungarian cuisine may not get the attention of French or Italian food, you'll likely come away with a new favorite dish.
Deak Ferenc Ter Metro station is served by lines M1, M2, and M3. This makes it easy to reach the square from almost any part of the city.
Many city bus routes stop at either side of the square, including routes 15, 16, 16 B, 105, and others.
The south side of the square has a tram stop served by tram line 1.
As such a crowded and popular place, the square isn't the best location to be carrying lots of bags around with you. As soon you feel the energetic vibe of Deak Ferenc Square, you'll want to explore without heavy bags weighing you down.
That's why it's a good idea to find a Bounce luggage storage location near Deak Ferenc ter and drop off your belongings there. You can leave any size of bags for as long as you like and know that they will be safely looked after until you return.
Buda Castle: Cross the river and take the quaint funicular railway up the hill to explore the seat of Hungarian power. First constructed in 1265, the castle was home to Hungarian kings, Austrian emperors, Nazi occupiers, and Soviet forces. As well as offering great views over Budapest, the Castle is home to an important collection of Hungarian art. Security is tight this location, and large bags are not permitted, so make sure you drop yours off at a Bounce luggage storage before you visit.
Fishermen's Bastion: One of Budapest's most popular tourist attractions, this is a fairytale-like collection of turrets and spires that overlook the city. It's the perfect place to enjoy the view and get some fantastic photos of the city skyline. There are plenty of stores and bars in the area where you can enjoy a drink or a nice cream on a hot summer day. It's better to avoid bringing heavy bags to this crowded area if you can, so make sure to drop them off at a luggage storage in Budapest before you visit.
Ruin pubs: Nowhere captures the anarchic spirit of Budapest better than its legendary ruin pubs. These former Soviet apartment buildings fell into ruin during the final years of Russian influence, but many have been converted into cool bars and nightclubs. You can take a tour and see some of the most unique ruin pubs in Budapest, while enjoying plenty of drinks and dancing along the way.

This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
