About the station

The Irish capital may be most famous for its pub culture, but it is absolutely loaded with world-class history to explore. From Dublin Castle to Trinity College and its libraries, you’ll have your hands full sightseeing through Dublin for a few days. Obviously, there will be time to hit the pub for a pint of Guinness or some Irish whiskey. You can even visit the source. Both Guinness and Jameson operate museums and tours of their brewery and distillery, and these are (understandably) at the top of the list of Dublin attractions.

Dublin is often the starting point, and perhaps ending point, for most travelers visiting Ireland. While some choose to pop in for a few days, most travelers tend to spend a week or so touring the coast and visiting multiple cities. They often fly into Dublin Airport, see the sights, and then hop in a car or on a bus to visit the other cities in Ireland like Galway, Shannon, Cork, and even Belfast in Northern Ireland.

One of the key transportation hubs in Dublin is the Busaras bus station (situated in the Áras Mhic Dhiarmada or "Mac Diarmada House"), which is a busy stop for regional buses and national services. You’ll be able to catch a bus to most travel destinations within the country, and even a few of the towns right outside of Dublin if you’re trying to do a day trip.

It won’t be difficult to find, either. With modern architecture, Busaras Station really stands out in historic Dublin. Busáras is also on the Red Line of the Luas system of trams that serve Dublin’s commuters. It’s situated on Store Street just before the main terminus at Dublin Connolly railway station. So Busaras is well-connected to other areas of Dublin.

Is there luggage storage at Busaras?

The central bus station does have highly limited luggage lockers available to rent for a few hours. These are small, more the size of cubbies so they might not be useful for storing larger items and luggage. Luckily, the station is situated right in the heart of Dublin, so your options won’t be limited at all.

Can you leave your luggage at Dublin train station?

Unfortunately, Dublin Connolly Railway Station does not offer any luggage storage services. If you need to store your luggage near Dublin Central Station, you’ll need to find alternatives. Luckily, its central location means there will be plenty of other options nearby, and you won’t be beholden to sticking around the neighborhood near Dublin Station.

How much is it to store luggage at Dublin Airport?

Dublin Airport’s luggage storage facilities consist of bag storage lockers at the arrivals area of Terminal 1 (T1). These are available to rent by the day and can accommodate small, medium, and large-sized luggage. Each locker type is priced accordingly, but you should expect to pay between $6 and $15 per day. It’s important to note that this might not be the most convenient option unless you’re in Dublin on a layover.

Where can you store luggage in Dublin?

Your hotel is always an option, as a bellhop and concierge can take your bag before check-in. But this might be out of the way for your itinerary, so finding an alternative like storage lockers or even a cloakroom at a museum are all options. These aren’t always reliable, so a luggage storage service might be the best option. Of all the luggage storage companies operating in Dublin, Bounce has easily the best reputation. We have luggage storage locations throughout Dublin (and the rest of Ireland, for that matter) with a host of useful features. The Bounce luggage storage network partners with local businesses all over the world to provide customers with convenient locations in cities like Dublin.

Things to do near Busaras Dublin

Dublin Castle

Situated on Grafton Street near St Stephen's Green, Dublin Castle isn’t more than a 15-minute walk from Busaras Central Station. It was built by the British to assert dominance over the city of Dublin and was a key feature in their occupation for over 700 years. You can tour the castle grounds and admire the impressive exterior or take a guided tour of the interior and even the dungeons. There are a few buildings to check out, some of which have been used as governmental offices throughout the years.

James Joyce Cultural Centre

One of Dublin’s best attractions situated on the North Side of the River Liffey (as is Busaras Station) there’s no reason to skip a visit to the James Joyce Museum. Set in the legendary author’s former home in a well-preserved Georgian house, you can tour the recreation of Joyce’s workspaces in both Dublin and Paris.

There’s plenty of original furniture along with artwork and other belongings he kept in Dublin. Once you’ve taken a peek into the Author’s life, head down Eccles Street to admire the other Georgian buildings and their famous colorful doors. Can’t get enough Joyce? You can also take a guided walking tour of Dublin to retrace the author’s steps.

Christ Church Cathedral

One of the most famously Catholic countries, Ireland is filled with gorgeous cathedrals and churches. Dublin is no different, especially with the stunning Christ Church Cathedral, which is perched atop a hill overlooking the rest of the capital. Founded by the Vikings of all people, this church dates back to 1030. Its initial wooden structure has been replaced by a marvelous stone structure with Gothic architectural features.

Airport travel from Busaras Dublin

Many Irish travelers use the regional bus network to get to Dublin International Airport, and Busaras is well-connected for getting to the largest airport in Ireland. The Dublin Express operates a coach bus from Terminals 1 and 2, which makes a stop right in the city center. You can also take the Airlink Express #41 which heads directly to the Irish Life building (a two-minute walk away from Busaras). Each of these bus routes takes about 30 minutes with minimal traffic. Both routes operate throughout the day and make frequent stops.

Getting around the city from Busaras Dublin

How to get to Trinity College Dublin from Busaras Dublin

The best thing about stepping off the bus at Busaras Station is that you are right in the middle of Dublin! While you’re technically on the north side of the River Liffey, you’re a short walk away from some of the top attractions in the country. Trinity College Dublin, and the bustling nightlife district Temple Bar, are only a 15-minute walk away from Busaras. Simply take Amiens Street to Tara Street (turn right) and you’ll stroll right onto campus. You can also take the #15 bus to save a few minutes. A taxi can get you here in under 10 minutes, but it might not be worth the $12 considering how scenic the walk is.

How to get to Phoenix Park from Busaras Dublin

One of the largest (proper, as in enclosed) public parks in Europe, the massive Phoenix Park is one of the city’s top places to head when the weather cooperates. The weather being good is a “big if,” but you can still head to this expansive green space to walk or cycle around, watch the locals play rugby or hurling, or even have a picnic. There’s also a large herd of wild fallow deer that mill about, which you’ll be able to see in the morning if you beat the crowds.

It’s easy enough to get to, with bus routes 52 C1, C2, C5, C6, and 39A all heading directly to Phoenix Park from Busaras. This generally takes about 40 minutes and costs less than $5, making it by far the most economical way to get here. A taxi ride will only take about 15 minutes (depending on traffic) and will cost about $25.
