About West End
This Edinburgh gem can be found hidden behind Shandwick Place. Consisting of charming boutiques, traditional pubs and quaint architecture, you’ll be mesmerized as you wander the streets of this area. It’s a cultural hub that is home to many of the city’s best art centers, with many festivals held in the area throughout the year. Part of the West End makes up a World Heritage Site and you’ll be transported back in time as you walk through this section.
In the early 1800s, William Walker bought land in the area and began building an estate next to New Town. Some of the existing streets still flashback to this era including ‘William Street’ and ‘Walker Street’. From here, the area continued to flourish, building and adapting into the mecca it is today. While the West End doesn’t always top Edinburgh bucket lists, we highly recommend adding it to your city itinerary.
