Top things to do in Glasgow

You’ll find quite a few options when it comes to how to spend your time in Glasgow. An intriguing history, rich culture, plenty of shopping opportunities and fantastic food are just some of what awaits when you visit this city.

Museums in Glasgow

Whenever you’re visiting a new city, stepping into a few of its museums is a great way to learn more about its history. Glasgow has several intriguing attractions for you to explore, from big museums with grand exhibits to smaller, more intimate institutions. Here are a few of our favorites that we recommend you check out during your stay.

Fossil Grove

If you were impressed when we said that the land of Glasgow has been inhabited since prehistoric times then you’ll absolutely love this museum. Fossil Grove is home to some of the oldest attractions in the city, including 11 fossilized tree stumps that are more than 330 million years old and date back to the Carboniferous Period. That makes them two times older than the dinosaurs! In 1887 the parkland of Victoria Park was being landscaped and that’s when the tree stumps were discovered. The museum that stands here today was built around them and is undoubtedly one of the coolest spots in the city.

Fossil Grove bag policy

Although their policy is unclear, it’s not recommended to bring any luggage into this museum. It’s fairly small and, being located inside of a park, some of the terrain is uneven. For your convenience and peace of mind, leave them at one of our many luggage storage facilities in the area.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Located inside the grounds of Kelvingrove Park, this museum in Glasgow has been open since 1901 and sees more than a million visitors per year. The building is large and separated into two wings; one with a unique museum collection and the other displaying some of the best civic art in all of Europe. The wide variety of weird but equally wonderful exhibits, as well as the fantastic artwork, makes it an interesting place for people of all ages.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum bag policy

Their bag policy isn’t specified, but many museums don’t allow big bags, backpacks or suitcases to be brought into the exhibits. To be safe, we suggest checking out Glasgow luggage storage options close to the museum. You can leave your things with us for a few hours while you explore the gallery.

Glasgow Science Centre

If science is what piques your interest then this is the place for you. The Glasgow Science Centre is home to more than 250 exhibits perfect for curious minds, with everything from plasma balls to a planetarium. Located on the banks of the River Clyde, on the opposite side of the Riverside Museum, it’s the perfect place to start a day of museum exploring. This establishment has three floors to explore, so reserve a couple of hours if you want to see it all.

Glasgow Science Centre bag policy
